It’s hardly a period of quiet before the storm. With the grand opening of STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE taking place next Friday, the Disneyland Resort remains a hotbed of activity across every inch of the property.
In this update we’ll take a look at a TON of progress that completed this week including several Project Stardust initiatives to get the park ready for the crush of humanity expected this summer. Walls are down, walkways are wider, planters are smaller (some are larger!), and more shade is on the way!
We’ll take a look at the newly reopened Sleeping Beauty Castle (and it’s walk-through), reopened Fantasyland shops and attractions, the new Toy Story 4 sneak peek, and the brand-new Sugarboo & Co. at Downtown Disney. Plus, we’ll take a look at the Pixar Pals Parking Structure which is so close to completion but not in time for next week’s hulabaloo.
Of course, a nice big merch run for you this week and it has us beaming with Pride! Some other great stuff this week too including a new Redd dress and much much more in this latest park pictorial. ENJOY!
A Beauty Awakens
After a short few months under refurbishment, Sleeping Beauty Castle reopened at Disneyland on Friday with a refreshed paint-job, new roofs, and overall fresher look to guarantee a sharp beautiful backdrop for grams, snaps, and Christmas family photos for years to come. Although we got a decent first look at the castle last week, we now get to walk not just through but also inside of the iconic Disneyland centerpiece.

Alien Pizza Planet lands permanently
Originally introduced as a temporary layover to the popular Red Rockett’s Pizza Port, the ALIEN PIZZA PLANET is now officially a permanent part of the Tomorrowland lineup following its reopening this past Friday. The location features a fresh coat of paint to its exteriors (including the former Moonliner tribute next door to it) and some readjustments to its interiors in an effort to make the experience of dining here easier.

Toy Story 4 comes to play
Disneyland (along with Disney Parks locations around the globe) have begun showing a TOY STORY 4 extended preview which includes a custom intro by actor Tony Hale.

Sugarboo & Co. opens
Sugarboo & Co., Downtown Disney’s latest tenant, has opened its doors right next door to Starbucks West. The family-owned unique boutique offering a wide variety of home goods including uplifting art prints, whimsical paper products, handmade ceramics, candles, bath apothecary and stamped jewelry.
This latest addition to Downtown Disney joins other newbies including The Disney Dress Shop, Disney Home and re-imagined World of Disney, plus Splitsville Luxury Lanes, Ballast Point Brewing Co. and Salt & Straw scoop shop.
Soarin’ Again
As the Disneyland Resort braces for a monumental summer that sees STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE finally welcome its first official guests, Disney California Adventure is hoping to pick up the slack with the limited-time return of Soarin’ Over California. The original version of the popular attraction debuted with the park in 2001 and has since spawned copies at Disney Parks across the globe.

Around Disneyland
Although the Disneyland App has updated with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, it seems the Disneyland Railroad may soon be getting a refresh of its own!
Lettering has finally appeared on this mural on Main Street.
The Mad Hatter looking neat and pretty.
A LOT of Project Stardust initiatives around the park completed this past week. Walls came down at the Refreshment Corner where the old ironwork marquee has been removed and a portion of the Jolly Holiday dining area has been cleared to widen the walkways of this crucial pinch-point on Main Street, USA.
It seems this may in fact be the new unfortunate permanent new home for the Ragtime Piano player. 🙁
Time for something sweet!
Or maybe something salty? In this adorable Mickey Balloon Popcorn Bucket.
Walls are down all around Main Street, USA
Wider walkways and re-slopped curbs now wrap around the entirety of Central Plaza.
New cubbies have been carved out to keep trashcans out of the walkways. Should be interesting to see how the benches are used as barricades in the evenings like they are currently in Frontierland when Fantasmic! is running.
This is random but we feared this old saggy tree would be removed (you can see a brace that was erected to support it that goes INTO the pond) but alas it seems to have survived Project Stardust!
In the interest of efficiency and streamlining, something like this would be an easy target. But little flaws and imperfections like this are what make the park so unique and show the storied history of this magical place. Is it weird to get emotional about a little tree? Absolutely. But then you wouldn’t be reading this article if you didn’t have weird little quirks like this about the Happiest Place on Earth. NERD!
There’s still even more room should Disney decide to expand Central Plaza further in the future.
There’s a little bit of a mishmash of flooring but it works for now!
Adventureland is in the process of getting its new entrance marquee!
Walls are down in front of Adventureland and it seems the small planter actually survived Project Stardust.
It honestly still seems like the Tiki Juice Bar could go to Yesterland to ease congestion here even further. Replace it with a nice verdant — dare we say, lush — planter to enclose the lanai for the Enchanted Tiki Room and it could work quite well. For several weeks now, the location has been Mobile Order only. Walk-up Dole Whip purchases are only available at the Tropical Hideaway.
The work for the sign is still not complete.
Sleeping Beauty Castle as seen across the newly downsized planter in front of the Plaza Inn.
Freshly painted bench.
Although one of the window displays wasn’t ready, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique reopened after a brief downtime. Although we didn’t get a confirmation, we suspect more seats were added to the popular princess-makeover beauty salon.
This charming clock hides what looks like a thermostat.
The flowers poking through the floor boards are so charming!
Fairy Tale Treasures reopened on Friday, as well. Some of its retail space was lost in the interest of a new advertisement of sorts for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The carriage is not new but it formerly resided inside of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. It remains an exclusive photo-op for guests who book the premium Castle Package or Deluxe Castle Package. Reservations can be made online via the official website or by calling (714) 781-STYLE or (714) 781-7895.
Figgy and Blue are still on vacation.
Blue dress special. Still irritated Ariel’s dress isn’t pink. I don’t care that she’s a red-head.
Casey Jr. Circus Train and Storybook Land Canal Boats have reopened.
Railings were still being repainted to finish up the refurbishment project.
The large blue wall built for Dumbo was not addressed during this refurbishment. It looks like a refurb wall and the little Dumbo poster on it does it no service.
The Matterhorn is at perfect scale for the Snowy peaks behind Pinocchio’s village but the trees in-between break up that illusion a little.
The Carrousel vending cart seems to have (permanently?) moved over near Pinocchio’s Daring Journey. It’s more out of the way here than it was near the castle.
Still no Fantasy Arts letter paining. I wonder if it’s a test to see if anybody notices before this gets cut permanently?
Full POV ride-through of the Matterhorn Bobsleds, why not?
Did you get your Star Wars themed nametag?
Walls are down in front of Space Mountain where Project Stardust has removed some walls and planters, extended some planters, and created a new area for stroller parking and shade sitting.
The extended dining patio has reopened at the Hungry Bear Restaurant with shade supports (but no coverings just yet.)
Marvel-Themed Land
Construction happening quickly on the new Spider-Man attraction for the upcoming Marvel-themed land!
A bunch of new building is being added to the front of the former Bug’s Life Theater.
You can see in addition to rising up in front of the theater, the new space wraps around the theater, as well.
The bug’s land restrooms are basically down to the studs as it turns from a tissue box into part of the matching Spider-Man building.
Around Disney California Adventure
Buena Vista Street has ditched its #Mickey90 decor in favor of patriotic red, white, and blue.
Windows displays were also updated to match.
Pixar Pier continues to see enhancements nearly a year after it grand opened.
The fountain near the IncrediCoaster is free of construciton walls now that it’s been re-tiled.
Mini Zurg is still missing.
Inside Out: Emotional Whirlwind is moving along towards its summer opening.
Weight testing is currently on-going with the recently placed buckets.
The marquee post has been installed for the attraction’s sign.
Railings are still behind walls.
Silly Symphony Swings have reopened.

In the ever-evolving world of Disney ticket levels, packages, and options the Disneyland Resort has added a new Annual Pass to the lineup: Disney Flex Passport.
