Lucky Fortune Cookery is part of the brand new San Fransokyo Square which has officially opened at Disney California Adventure and we’ve got your full look at everything the location has to offer including a refreshed menu with fusion blends of Asian-style dishes and signature cocktails and drinks.
About the Location
Lucky Fortune Cookery is an opening day original at Disney California Adventure, it was actually originally located where Cocina Cucamonga is today (which itself was in the space know occupied by Lucky Fortune Cookery).
The eatery maintains the industrial vibes of the land as a whole adding some charm with hanging lanterns amongst the brick work and potted bamboo. According to the backstory, the location took up residencein bustling San Fransokyo Square from a former Pescadero Sardine Factory.
This location offers Mobile Order to help minimize your time standing in line. We’ve noticed over the past few weeks that Mobile Order pick-ups have taken upwards of 30 minutes or more from the point of hitting the “Prepare My Order” button.
Baymax Sipper!
This adorable Baymax Sipper is available for $19.79 and includes choice of fountain beverage at time of purchase (sales limited to two per person, per transaction; no discounts apply) and can be purchased from Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill, Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill, and Aunt Cass Café.
What We Ate
Several items on the menu are all new and we gave them a try. Here’s what we thought….
Baymax Macaron ($6.99) starting with dessert is never a bad thing and this macaron is filled with a chocolate-hazelnut spread with a ring of buttercream to hold it in. The flavors here are exactly what you’d expect and this is a perfectly suitable option without being particularly notable besides the absolutely adorable presentation.
Karaage-inspired Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($14.99) with slaw and togarashi mayonnaise on a potato bun, served with garlic chips, is a stand-out dish and possibly the best thing on the menu. The chicken is perfectly crispy and the mayo has a salty, savory slightly spicy kick to it. The garlic chips are a light, crispy, and a perfect compliment.
Beef Bulgogi Burrito ($13.99) with seasoned rice, cabbage slaw and garlic chips is similar to a wrap that was previously on the menu (pictured here). The major difference is a tortilla now replaces the scalion pancake which is a decided downgrade. Still this is a really great meal option, packed some some great flavor and more of those great chips.
Yaki Udon with Karaage-inspired Crispy Chicken ($18.49) with mushrooms, sugar snap peas, roasted red peppers, bok choy, dark soy and hoisin sauces. A Plant-Based Yaki Udon is available for $13.49 which offers the exact same dish minus the chicken. This is a veggie-packed dish and it’s absolutely a phenomenal choice if you’ve got a big appetite.
Pork Wonton Nachos ($10.49) goisin-glazed pork, cheese Sauce, spicy aïoli. pickled cabbage, jalapeños and toasted sesame seeds. These are not a new menu item but they are absolutely fantastic. Perhaps better as a shared appetizer, this hefty snack would also make a satisfying — albeit quite rich — meal.
Teriyaki Chicken ($12.99) with sautéed vegetables and steamed rice is a perfectly predictable option. The version pictured here is the kid’s version which costs $7.99 and is served with a small beverage. Good flavors here, no surprises. The kid’s version comes with sauce on the side.
Beef Birria Ramen ($15.49) with consomé, served with house-made birria, soft-boiled egg, monterey jack cheese, cilantro, roasted corn, onions and radish. It’s perfectly serviceable but does not have us raving the way the Birria Ramen tacos from the Cocina Cucamonga does just across the way.
Lychee Tea ($6.99) features Gold Peak unsweetened black Tea, premium lychee syrup with lychee coconut jelly is a nice, light, and refreshing option. Neither the lychee or the coconut jellies overpower the drink but both work together to give this a gentle delicate flavor.
Thai Tea with Sea Salt Cream ($6.99) includes brown sugar boba and takes a fairly straight forward thai tea with boba and then goes one step further with the sea salt cream to create a fun flavor combo that works well on its own as a treat or as part of a meal.
