June 13 marks the beginning of an all new seasonal event at Universal Studios Hollywood with the the announcement of Universal Mega Movie Summer. Celebrating some of Universal’s most iconic franchises, fans can expect new experiences spotlighting Jurassic World, Back to the Future, Jaws, Wicked, and more.
Here’s everything we know so far about the Universal Mega Movie Summer at Universal Studios Hollywood.
What to Expect
Universal Mega Movie Summer promises a fan-packed lineup featuring new surprises and entertainment, dining (crafted by Universal Studios Hollywood Executive Chef Julia Thrash), and merchandise across an array of exclusive in-world, themed offerings.
Jurassic World
Jurassic World—The Ride will be getting a few updates including the return of its erupting finale geysers, new Spitter dinosaurs, and a roaring Mosasaurus finale. Additions include a new baby dino, Spinosaurus photo op, Compy scavenger hunt, and refreshed food and drink options.
Jurassic World—The Ride Featuring Mosasaurus Splash
Inspired by Universal Pictures’ upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth (in theaters July 2) Jurassic World—The Ride Featuring Mosasaurus Splash revives erupting water geysers at the attraction’s finale guaranteed to spray every single person on board — this will be accented by the menacing roar of a Mosasaurus.
Not only that, but some creatures that have been missing since the remake of this attraction will be making their return with four new Spitter dinosaurs adding to the watery melee.
New Baby Dino
- An all-new adorable dinosaur from Jurassic World Rebirth will join Blue the Velociraptor, Juliet the Triceratops and Baby Tango.
- These highly realistic, lifelike dinosaurs will engage with guests alongside the debut of an all-new adventure character, also inspired by Jurassic World Rebirth.
Spinosaurus Photo-Op
- A larger-than-life photo op of a Spinosaurus dinosaur will welcome guests to step into a thrilling scene from the film
Scavenger Hunt
- Universal also confirmed a scavenger hunt game featuring the memorable Compy which promises to keep participants on their toes.
Dining
- Jurassic Cafe will serve up a sampling of new prehistoric delicacies, plus Isla Nubar will feature new cocktails, The Jurassic Water Rebirth and Spicy Jurassic Pearadise.
Jaws
To mark the 50th Golden Anniversary of Jaws the movie, there will be new meet and greets featuring Captain Quint and Chief Brody plus updates to the Studio Tour at the Jaws Lake and Hollywood sign. The iconic hanging shark photo op also returns, and Hollywood & Dine transforms into Amity Island Cafe with a themed menu and specialty drinks.
Character Meet and Greet
- This summer marks the debut of meet and greet characters, Captain Quint and Chief Brody.
Studio Tour Updates
- Jaws will be featured on the iconic Hollywood Sign replica, situated along the backlot hillside
- The iconic Jaws Lake attraction will get updates to celebrate July 4 all summer long.
Photo-Op
- The park is reintroducing its iconic hanging shark, a larger-than-life dimensional sculpture photo op that fans saw last year during the celebration of the 60th anniversary.
Dining
- Amity Island Cafe will takeover Hollywood & Dine (near the park’s main entrance) serving up a menu fit for a great white.
- Menu and beverage highlights will include Lobster Roll, Vegan Crab Cake Sandwich, Fish and Chips, Fish and Chicken Basket, Shark Bait Burger, Shark Fin Funnel Cake, Amity Island Parfait and Amity Beach Lifesaver Donut, as well as The Shark Bite cocktail and Amity Open Water, a non-alcoholic beverage.
Back to the Future
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the landmark film Back to the Future, fans will find meet and greets featuring Doc Brown, Marty McFly, and Einstein, previously exclusive to Fan Fest Nights. Guests can snap photos with Doc’s DeLorean on the Upper Lot and enjoy themed eats at Mel’s Diner, including the Flux Capacitor Patty Melt and Time Traveler’s Milk Shake.
Character Meet and Greet
- Characters including Doc Brown, Marty McFly and Einstein the dog will greet guests and pose for timeless photo ops.
- Fans can currently only meet these characters during Universal Fan Fest Nights
Photo-Op
- Doc’s DeLorean time machine from the film will be staged on the theme park’s Upper Lot, adjacent to Mel’s Diner.
Dining
- Mel’s Diner will continue serving up themed menu items such as the Flux Capacitor Patty Melt, Time Machine Pastrami Melt, Doc Brown’s Chicken Pot Pie, Outatime Cookie, Time Traveler’s Milk Shake, Flux Capacitor Mocktail and Wake Up Juice Cocktail.
- The new menu items first appeared in celebration of Universal Fan Fest Nights
Wicked
- Rejoicify with popular characters, Elphaba and Glinda who will make regular day time visits at the existing Wicked themed photo op near the main entrance.
- Fans can currently only meet these characters during Universal Fan Fest Nights
How to Train Your Dragon
- A sculpted dimensional photo op of Toothless from the upcoming live action movie How to Train Your Dragon (opening in theatres on June 13) will take center stage within Universal Plaza.
- This lifelike, 730-pound, larger-than-life sculpted dimensional dragon will tower at nearly 6’ in height, measuring 24’ in length and 8’ in width.
- A dedicated food cart within Universal Plaza will serve scrumptious treats that only a dragon could devour, such as Toothless and Light Fury cookies and a Toothless popcorn bucket.
Sneak Peek, Hollywood Drift
- As construction continues on Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster, guests will get an early look at one of the ride vehicles for the thrilling new attraction.
- Plus, a Dodge Charger ride vehicle, designed to look like Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger, will also be located at Universal Plaza
More fun at At CityWalk
Universal CityWalk Hollywood is also celebrating Universal Mega Movie Summer with a variety of entertainment and limited-time offerings. These include:
- Voodoo Doughnut will bring the Doughnut Go In the Water inspired by Jaws, plus Little Stepper and Big Stepper treats inspired by Jurassic World Rebirth.
- The Universal Studio Store and Cartooniversal will sell a variety of themed merchandise aligned with Universal Mega Movie Summer’s engaging entertainment.
- Five Towers Stage will feature DJs and stage performances. You can visit Universal CityWalk for more information and a schedule of events.
- Universal Cinema, an AMC Theatre, offers the opportunity to see original movie costumes on display in the theatre lobby.
