Without mentioning it by name, Disney confirmed today rumors that the former Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney would be converted into a new Star Wars Trading Post store. Last year, WonderGround Gallery across the way closed to make way for the push of merchandise from a galaxy far, far, away offering merchandise (including apparel, accessories, souvenirs, creatures, and droids) that were previously only exclusively found within the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge expansion inside of the parks.
The switch to the former Rainforest Cafe is a move many suggested as a logical approach for the restaurant which was shuttered in 2018 to make for a now-canceled Disneyland Resort hotel expansion. In these new digs, Disney shared that Walt Disney Imagineers have created a design inspired by hidden jungle Resistance bases like those seen in the films — Rey’s iconic speeder will also be prominently displayed at the entrance.
The move away from its current location allows WonderGround Gallery to return once more. The art-focused location will return with an emphasis housewares and headbands, and Spirit Jerseys which may be an overall departure of content for the location. Rumors abound that the location could be soon converted once again in the near future to sell merchandise from the upcoming Avengers Campus but nothing official has been announced.
