Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge continues to dominate an enormous amount of construction at the Happiest Place on Earth but construction and refurbishment projects continue around the entirety of the Disneyland Resort.
Apart from a check-in on the the next year’s galaxy from far, far away, we’ll take a look at the extensive refurbishment of the Matterhorn which will be changing up the areas in front of the attraction too with updated planters and foliage.
We’ll also check in on other refurbishments around the park including Jessie’s Critter Carousel, removal and updates of planters, and the crazy amount of work at Downtown Disney as it continues its refresh to add new shopping and dining experiences including nearly-completed Salt & Straw plus Napolini, Ballast Point, and Black Craft. We’ll also peak at the Earl of Sandwich which returns to service tomorrow!
We’ll have a tiny merch run for you that makes up for its size with sheer color as we prepare for next weekend’s Gay Days 2018. All of this and much more in our latest park pictorial update! ENJOY!

Around Disneyland
Summer may be over but big crowds at Disneyland remain the norm during Halloween Time.
Still some walls up on Main Street.
Busy, busy!
From a distance, Matterhorn looks great.
But as you look closer you can see waterfalls are off and there’s scaffolding all round the old gal as she continues her refurbishment.
Small World Toy Shop exterior getting some love.
Old Motor Boat landing is still behind scaffolding.
Reduction of the riverway at the Frontierland entrance continues.
Wider walkways are expected once the walls come down.
Existing planters at the Frontierland entrance are a little bit smaller than they were before.
Tropical Hideaway still coming soon. Progress here seems to be coming at snail pace.
Love this new setup at the Mint Julep Bar. Still not a perfect system but better than ordering from the tiny windows.
Took a visit to Chikapin Hill where the Ziploc sponsorship has led to little bags being handed out at Splash Mountain!
I thought tree removal or walkway widening project was taking place on the Big Thunder trail but it looks like it’s just storage for the Mickey’s Halloween Party decorations.
Pumpkin Spice Beignets from the Mint Julep Bar are a lovely Halloween Time treat featuring the classic recipe tweaked with a faint trace of pumpkin spice flavor in the dough.
Black Rose dessert at the Red Rose Taverne continues to be a hot menu item selling out at various points in the day and for good reason. The decadent Halloween Time treat is a black truffle mousse with raspberry compote and a thin cakey layer underneath and the whole thing is dusted with edible glitter. It’s an enchanting chocolate creation that is just as tasty as it is stunning.

Around Disney California Adventure
World of Color continues along on an extensive refurbishment that likely won’t see its return until 2019.
Jessie’s Critter Carousel also continues its very long conversion, set to reopen next year.
Still no Bing Bong.
Around the Resort
White Water Snacks is now closed as it undergoes renovation.
Part of the pool area is also closed as Disney removes planters and trees not to widen walkways but instead to add a new dining patio and pool bar area. All three pools remain open.
While Disney typically tries to save, relocate, and re-use trees on property it seems the ones here were tagged for removal.
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa has a Pump-cake Patch with an Oogie Boogie connection that’s over 4 feet tall.
A special Boo-tique is setup selling some Halloween treats in the hotel lobby.
Mickey and Friends tram station has some refreshed Yellow Safety Lines.
Over in Downtown Disney, it looks like we might be close to the grand reopening of the full World of Disney shop as the transition area between the old and new sections of the store is now closed. Only the western-most entrance is available near the Starbucks.
Napolini is still quite an open air concept at the moment.
Salt & Straw facade appears to be nearing completion.
Wetzel’s Pretzels is not quite as far along. Was hoping we could get some more Disney Springs-style original dining concepts in that small space but Wetzel Dogs are fine, I guess.
Black Craft and Ballast Point still show very little in the way of progress. They seem to be variations of the same concept which is disappointing but also better than the shops that previously filled the space!
The unused window fronts have been decorated with some cute Halloween themed decals.
Speaking of unused spaces, window fronts here are also decorated.
The stage is still used for entertainment the space in front of the AMC is used to house food trucks.
Earl of Sandwich returns to operation on Monday, October 1.
ESPN Zone sits sad and alone but the TVs still run.
New structure at Mickey and Friends continues along.
Looks like the escalators will start going up soon.
