San Diego Comic-Con was once again kicked off by fabulous night of fun, fashion, and geekdom thanks to the Her Universe Fashion Show which took place tonight at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. The event this year brought together 27 different designers to compete for the opportunity to design a fashion collection with Her Universe for Hot Topic.
Stunning couture looks inspired by uber fandom and geeky pop-culture strutted the runway. Several fantastic looks graced the stage including those inspired by Star Wars, The Force Awakens, Wall-E, and more. There was even a wow-moment with the Marauders Map dress that literally printed the letters on the dress as she walked down the runway. A super fabulous trench was also transformed into an awesome Wonder Woman gown.
Over the course of the past three years, the looks have certainly been raising the bar in terms of quality and showmanship!
Hosted by Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein, the event was recorded for a new docu-series about the show that aires exclusively on Comic-Con HQ . The series finale for that series–which culminated with tonight’s fashion show–will air Thursday, July 28th. That’s where you can tune in to find out the winners!
Judges for the event included a special celebrity panel of judges including Cindy Levitt (SVP Merchandise & Marketing, Hot Topic), Nathan Sawaya (World Renowned LEGO artist), Brinton Parker (Assistant Editor of Trending and Viral Features at POPSUGAR) and last year’s fashion show winners and designers Leetal Platt and Kelly Cercone.
Her Universe Fashion Show Runway
Amazing looks from a variety of different fandoms, all under the theme of Women in Power!
Ashley Eckstein wore a fantastic dress that was covered head to tow in LEGO bricks! Not only that but it featured a design of Ahsoka Tano!
Nathan Sawaya and previous Her Universe Fashion Show winner Andrew MacLaine collaborated to create Eckstein’s dress.
There were three winners for this years Fashion Show, to find out which you’ll need to head to Comic-Con HQ on July 28, 2016. The judges (shown below) had a tough job ahead!
Hot Topic Runway
A selection of Hot Topic looks available in stores were strutted down the runway to kick everything off.
