The not-so-scary world of Monstropolis is heading towards a 2027 debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and at 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event Imagineers were ready to spill some of the secrets of what’s in store for the new land including entertainment, dining, and more!

Here’s a look at what we got to see at the Disney Experiences Showcase during 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event (formerly D23 Expo) taking place from August 14 – 16, 2026.

What to Expect

The Disney Experiences Showcase at the Honda Center was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and featured Michael Hundgen, Vice President Creative, and Chris Beatty, Vice President, Walt Disney Imagineering to talk everything Monsters, Inc. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here’s some of what we learned.

  • Monstropolis is set to open in phases staring in 2027.
  • The Glob Theater
    • Home to the signature stage show Welcome to Monstropolis, featuring an all-new original song written by Randy Newman — his first track written specifically for a theme park!
  • Harryhausen’s
    • A full-service sushi restaurant featuring its signature namesake multi-armed sushi chef as a fully moving Audio-Animatronic figure
    • “A menu unlike anything else we offer at Walt Disney World. It will be a great place to bring your Schmoopsie-poo for a romantic meal.
  • Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza
    • Your go-to place to grab a slice. Humans may recognize Archie, Fear Tech’s beloved six-legged mascot, but after years of being “borrowed” by mischievous MU students, he’s become a fan favorite on both campuses.
  • The Monsters University Alumni Club
    • Head on down for a who’s who of all the student clubs, fraternities, and sororities at MU.
    • Inside the Alumni Club is the elite Scarer’s Club, honoring the school’s legendary scarers from years past.
  • Scareporium
    • A gift shop with the latest finds for apparel and gifts in Monstropolis.
  • The Door Coaster
    • The high-speed suspended roller coaster inside the factory door vault will launch guests 40 feet in the air in 4 seconds.
