As construction continues in its earliest phases on the new COCO themed attraction at Disney California Adventure, Imagineers were on hand at 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event to share details about what we can expect in the magical new family-friendly adventure.

Here’s a look at what we got to see at the Disney Experiences Showcase during 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event (formerly D23 Expo) taking place from August 14 – 16, 2026.

What to Expect

The Disney Experiences Showcase at the Honda Center was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and featured Ali Rubinstein (Senior Vice President, Global Creative & Development Studios) and Emily O’Brien (Portflio Executive Creative Producer, Disneyland Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort)  to talk about the exciting new addition. Here’s some of what we learned.

  • The world’s first-ever Coco ride is a family-friendly boat dark ride picking up one year after the original film.
  • Guests enter through a “casa museo” dedicated to Hector Rivera before journeying through Miguel’s memory of his unforgettable trip to the vibrant Land of the Dead.
  • The attraction promises to lean into the characters, music, Mexican culture, and the love of a family that’s passed down through the generations.
  • The ride is a voyage for the whole family with no height requirement.
  • Disney also shared that Imagineering is also continuing to draw inspiration from classic attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion for the development of this attraction, bringing the skeletal cast of characters to life through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology.

More Fun

  • To celebrate, there was also by a musical performance of “La Llorona” by Los Lobos.
  • All weekend long, D23 attendees were invited to submit handwritten memories at the Imagineering Pavilion to be physically integrated into the roots of a special tree in the attraction.
