Although we don’t have an official maiden voyage date set just yet, the STAR WARS: GALACTIC CRUISER will soon be making departures from Earth into stories from a galaxy far, far away. For the most part, details have been pretty vague but the new THE ART OF STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE book is set for release on April 27, 2021 and it brings with it some great sneak peeks.
The fancy new lodging is unofficially referred to as the “Star Wars hotel” and from the D23 Expo we know that the experience is largely narrative driven over the course of a two-night voyage which allows guests the opportunity to participate as much or as little as they prefer with the unfolding events.
The unprecedented adventure will include the chance to train with a lightsaber, accept missions from the Resistance (or the First Order depending on where your allegiances lie), and even include an excursion day on the planet of Batuu! You can see our more detailed coverage at the link below.

From the concept art above, it’s clear that the ship’s interiors will have a decidedly elegant aesthetic — a far cry from the dusty and crumbly appearance of Batuu. Author Amy Ratcliffe explains that the new, yet not unfamiliar, upscale approach evokes what we’ve seen recently in canon including STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI on Canto Bight and SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY on Dryden Vos’s yacht (where you might have caught Qi’ra referencing a special guest by the name of Dok-Ondar) or even EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE with Princess Leia’s Tantive IV ship.
Guests will encounter more than a few friends and foe along the way. Not will they only come face to face with a slew of droid and alien lifeforms on board but also familiar characters from the recent Star Wars movies including Rey and Chewbacca. One of the more interesting tidbits shared in THE ART OF STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE is that the ship’s captain is being developed as a Pantoran alien. We don’t get any details about her (not even a name) but concept renderings show her in a striking silver and navy captain’s uniform which complements her blue skin and bright red hair.
Other sneaks featured in the book include some seriously awesome droids that are expected to be part of the ship’s service. Astromech to be on the look out for include an RX pilot that shuttles her passengers safely to and from the ship, a fancy R2 unit with glossy metallic accents, and many others with yet-unknown purpose.
