As we’ve previously reported, ADVENTURE THRU THE WALT DISNEY ARCHIVES is coming to Disney+ this Friday, November 19. This documentary debuted June 2020 in honor of the Archives’ 50th anniversary and, until now, was only available to D23 gold members.
MouseInfo was invited to listen in on a chat with the Film’s creative team and they answered our most burning questions!
What is it?
First of all, what exactly is ADVENTURE THRU THE WALT DISNEY ARCHIVES? The film explores beloved parts of Disney—including its theme parks and Studio lot—through an engaging, historical lens, as legendary producer and host Don Hahn (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Maleficent) speaks with Walt Disney Archives Director Becky Cline and other members of the Archives team. Each stop on the adventure offers a look at some of the iconic treasures that have played a role in shaping The Walt Disney Company.
Directed by John Gleim you’ll find in this special presentation new interviews with Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, Pixar’s Pete Docter, film historian Leonard Maltin, Disney Legend Mark Hamill, and many more!
What’s new?
So is there anything new to see and, more importantly, was anything taken out from the original D23-only version?
Becky and John explain very small tweaks were made – the credits, captioning, chyrons, some music, clearances and the like – but nothing was taken out. “We didn’t make it less nerdy,” John promises.
In fact, we get an entirely new never-before-released interview with Kevin Feige. “If you don’t know, [Kevin Feige] is a huge Disney fan” John explains. “I really wanted to show his nerdiness about EPCOT. I was fortunate enough to extend that part of the interview.”
What’s next?
“Well you know the Walt Disney Company has a 100th anniversary coming up real soon in 2023 so we’re already deeply involved in the Company’s plans for that,” Becky teases. “Keep an eye out for that!”
Believe us, Becky. We will.
