EDITOR’S NOTE: At the Greek Theatre this Saturday, Disney held a special engagement of Disney’s Lion King Sing-Along in celebration of the upcoming Walt Disney Signature Collection release of the film. Our Junior correspondent, Arissa Salazar was on location to get the scoop! Join a recap of her experience below!
I love the Lion King. My mom and I watch Disney movies and love them all, so I was super excited to go to this event. Before the movie started, I got to take a couple of fun pics with Timon and Rafiki. I even got some face time with Dianne Doan who plays Lonnie from Descendants 2! I was also able to talk to a couple of Disney channel celebs, to ask them about the Lion King. So over a couple Shirley temples, I met up with Issac Brown who plays Booker on Ravens Home. Here’s my interview:
Me: What do you like about the Lion King?
Issac: Everything. I mean the songs, the story line. You can’t help but love it! It’s timeless.
Me: who’s your favorite Character?
Issac: Rafiki, no Simba. Yeah, Simba. He’s the king!
I also met Jason Maybaum who plays Levi from Ravens Home. He asked if he could follow MouseInfo.com, and asked me what I like about the Lion King. (who’s interviewing who here?!)
I replied, the songs. They are so great!
So after grabbing a couple snacks, it was time to watch the movie. Before the movie started we were entertained by The Lion King Broadway’s Tshidi Manye who plays Rafiki. She sang “The Circle of Life.” It was an amazing performance. After she sang, she sat next to me. I was so honored. Then Lion King Producer Don Hahn, introduced the movie. As It started, the excitement was all around. Then the music started and everyone, and I mean everyone sang in unison to the “Circle of Life.” It was so amazing.
As the movie played, words would come up on the bottom of each song to help anyone with the words, but I think everyone knew them all. It was the coolest thing to hear hundreds of people singing “I Just Can’t Wait to be King.” After each song we all clapped and cheered. It was like seeing the Lion King in a whole new light. I would definitely suggest heading to a theatre near you to experience the Lion King again. You won’t be disappointed!
THE LION KING on Walt Disney Signature Collection roars onto Digital on August 15, 2017 and on Blu-ray and DVD on August 29, 2017.
