MULAN finally has an official release date. You can expect to see the film September 4, 2020 but not in the way you might expect.
Today during The Walt Disney Company Q3 FY20 Earnings conference call, CEO Bob Chapek confirmed that the film will be coming to a “Premier Access” release on Disney+ for $29.99. Where available, the film will also be released theatrically where theaters are open and/or in places where Disney+ is not available.
Chapek confirmed on the call that the Premium Access release of MULAN to Disney+ was necessitated as a requirement of current conditions indicating that it should be viewed as a “one-off” scenario vs. an active new business model that Disney is actively considering exploring.
A celebrated international cast features in MULAN including: Yifei Liu as Mulan; Donnie Yen as Commander Tung; Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan; Yoson An as Cheng Honghui; with Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor. The film is directed by Niki Caro from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Elizabeth Martin & Lauren Hynek based on the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan.”
