In a posting shared today to Instagram, Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) confirmed that fan-favorite Imagineer Joe Rohde will be retiring. The retirement goes into effect Jan. 4, 2021 ending an esteemed 40 years of creativity with the company.

Known for a flair of the exotic, Joe Rohde is a fan-favorite Disney Imagineer regarded for a deep passion and wealth of knowledge with regards to authentic world-building and immersive storytelling.

Fans will recognize his achievements across myriad of projects including Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Pandora: The World of Avatar, Disney’s Aulani resort in Hawaii, and the upcoming Lighthouse Point project in the Bahamas for the Disney Cruise Line.

In the official statement from WDI they state:

After an illustrious 40-year Imagineering career, Joe Rohde just shared his plan to retire on Jan. 4, 2021. We can’t thank Joe enough for his infectious passion, being an incredible teacher and mentor, and for inspiring generations of Disney Imagineers and guests from around the world. Wishing @JoeRohde all the best in his next journey and on the many, many more adventures yet to come.
