This past weekend, STAR WARS CELEBRATION gave us some great looks and announcements about what we can expect to see in the new STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE expansion as early as May 31, 2019! From the high-profile announcement about the partnership with Coca-Cola to the nuance of voice actors, animatronics, and mobile app integrations, there’s A LOT that we learned about this Galaxy that will soon be not so far away.
Take a look now for a look at the highlights of new details for STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE.
Coca-Cola Products
Disney has made it clear that Galaxy’s Edge will be as authentic an experience as possible. When you enter this land you’ll have stepped INTO the Star Wars galaxy and our real world will melt away. On a practical angle, there’s several real-world constraints and limitations to that immersion to keep the story realistic.
One way in which Disney carefully will bring the real world into focus in Galaxy’s Edge is with their partnership with Coca-Cola to offer in-story versions of their four most popular products: Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite, and Dasani.
Celebrity Voice Work
Three fan-favorite celebrities were tasked with bringing their voices to the new land.
Yoda (Frank Oz)
Although they didn’t specify WHERE you’d hear his voice, Disney confirmed that when you hear Yoda in the new land, it will in fact be the voice of Frank Oz.
DJ R3X (Paul Ruebens)
You can expect to find this decommissioned pilot droid serving his time now as a DJ at Oga’s Cantina. We to hear a snippet of two new songs that will play in the watering hole.
Hondo Ohnaka (Jim Cummings)
Video shown of the new animatronic A-1000 figure was also paired with voice tracks by Jim Cummings!
Dok-Ondar Animatronic
Inside the new Dok-Ondar Den of Antiquities shop, guests will find the proprietor himself in fully animatronic form! Perhaps you can barter a better deal with him for some unique bounty?
Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
Not much was shared about the attraction that we don’t already know but one fun element of customization comes AFTER you ride it. During the course of your adventure, your actions will determine the success or failure of your mission. During your ride, crash the Millennium Falcon and you’ll find that exiting the cockpit will show evidence of the damage.
The iconic hallway of ship will look beautiful and pristine if you did well; if you crashed and took too much fire from TIEs, lights will be broken, you’ll hear sparks and comm chatter about your poor effort.
Play Disney Parks App Integration
Your mobile device becomes your Data Pad in the land, allowing you to interact with various elements with four specific abilities: HACK, SCAN, TRANSLATE and TUNE.
HACK
The HACK feature of Play Disney Parks app allows you to try to unlock and chop your way into various interfaces in the land.
SCAN
The SCAN feature of Play Disney Parks app allows you to detect contents of crates and other mysteries in the land.
TRANSLATE
The TRANSLATE feature of Play Disney Parks app allows you to decode all of the alien Aurebesh language in the land.
TUNE
The TUNE feature of Play Disney Parks app allows you to align satellites to decode various transmissions and signals.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge comic
We already knew a new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge comic was coming from Marvel but we recently got more info about what to expect within the pages of these new tomes. It will be a five-issue series will introduce characters such as Dok-Ondar who live on the planet. The book will show how Dok-Ondar came into possession of some of the artifacts we’ll soon see for ourselves, in person within the new land.
Lucasfilm Story Group and Walt Disney Imagineering worked hand-in-hand to ensure the visuals of Batuu and Black Spire Outpost match what you’ll actually see in the new land. This new chapter of Star Wars universe teams up Ethan Sacks (Old Man Hawkeye) and artist Will Sliney.
