Universal Studios Hollywood is kicking off its new RUNNING UNIVERSAL series this year with Minion Run 5K on Saturday, May 11, 2019. If you’ve participated in similar runDisney events before, you’ll get the general idea for what Universal has planned. The unique setup will take runners both inside and outside of the park and backlot on a course that will include surprises along the way such as different characters and cheerleaders.
The race will begin at the Universal Studios Hollywood iconic entrance gates and course its way to the finish line at CityWalk’s 5 Towers outdoor concert stage. The program will begin at 6 a.m. and culminate at 7:30 a.m. with a memorable awards and closing ceremony.
We learned recently from Chris Nelson (CFO, Universal Studios Hollywood) that the idea for the entire thing started with an internal initiative for Team Members under their health and wellness initiative. After finding similar previous events for their own employees proved to be popular, Universal decided to open the run up to a general audience. Each race could be themed to a different Universal property but no franchise made as much sense than the zany energetic Minions from the DESPICABLE ME films!
So get ready for a whole lot of banana-yellow hijinks for the first annual RUNNING UNIVERSAL Minion Run 5K!
