If there has every been a movie poster that you loved, it is probably from the insanely talented people over at MONDO. Back in 2004 Mondo mostly dealt in T-shirts, but Alamo Drafthouse Cinema head, Tim League brought in artist Rob Jones to create a poster for Rolling Roadshow, the Drafthouse’s traveling film series. That’s when Rob suggested they bring in more artists to do a poster for each movie of the series and that’s when Mondo took off.
Rob Jones (founder/creative director), Eric Garza (creative director), Jay Shaw (creative director/artist), Jason Edmiston (artist), and Tom Whalen (artist) were all on the panel to discuss how their richly imaginative work is fueled by a love of pop culture.
The panel mostly discussed how they started with Mondo and each of their creative process. The panelists also talked about their upcoming board game from THE THING. Also, we got a first look at the upcoming THE ART OF MONDO book. Besides being absolutely beautiful, Disney fans will geek out on the introduction by Brad Bird.
THE ART OF MONDO will allow fans to explore the studio’s remarkable back catalog, including Olly Moss’s iconic Star Wars trilogy work, Laurent Durieux’s brilliantly subtle Jaws poster, and Tyler Stout’s Guardians of the Galaxy art. Other key Mondo artists such as Jock, Martin Ansin, and Aaron Horkey are also featured.
THE ART OF MONDO book will be out in September.
