After the worst-kept secret was officially announcing at #SDCC last month, Disney confirmed that The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will be closing its elevator doors for the final time at Disney California Adventure on January 2, 2017 before it undergoes its Marvel makeover as Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT.
To commemorate the special attraction, Disney will kick off a few special events leading up to the closure.
During Halloween Time
The first special event to kick off in celebration of the final months of the attraction will be Late Check-Out which will run during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort from September 9 through October 31. What does it entail? The same classic attraction but in complete darkness. The attraction is already pretty dark so how much of a lure this will prove to be should prove interesting.
Special commemorative merchandise, food and beverage offerings will also be available for Late Check-Out. You’ll also get the chance to picture yourself “checking out” with a special photo location in front of the Hollywood Tower Hotel marquee, complete with vintage luggage and other nods to the landmark’s story and the glitz and glamor of a bustling young movie town.
Plus, each day during Halloween Time, the Hollywood Tower Hotel will host special performances by Buena Vista Street’s own Silver Lake Sisters. Dolly, Dottie and Ethel Bounds, veterans of the vaudeville circuit known professionally as Fiddler, Fifer & Practical (or the Silver Lake Sisters) performed throughout their glittering career at the rooftop lounge of the famous hotel.
Late Check Out event runs through Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort from September 9 through October 31.
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ closes permanently At Disney California Adventure park on January 2, 2017.
