During the Halloween season there’s a plethora of frights, haunts and other horrors at every corner but the EL CAPITAN THEATRE is serving spooks of a more family-friendly variety on select dates now through November 1 with their SPOOKTACULAR SOIREE events inside the legendary Hollywood movie palace.

We were invited to check one out recently and were pleasantly surprised at the wonderful little spectacle. Apart from tickets to see HOCUS POCUS, our Spooktacular Soiree tickets also included a reception downstairs with a host of hot and cold appetizers, desserts, and even Ghirardelli chocolates! Oh and did we mention wine, beer, and other soft drinks?

The reception is held in the downstairs lounge where a small display of relevant props and memorabilia from HOCUS POCUS, THE BLACK CAULDRON, and THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS are on display.

As you enjoy the sights and tastes in the reception, you’ll be entertained by the quirky magical styles of magician Greg Wilson. The reception is a great way to see some up-close magic and chat with Wilson himself who leads a magical family legacy. And, yeah, have some sips from the open bar.

A true highlight of the swinging spectacle, however, is a BACKSTAGE TOUR of the spooky old theater’s historical backways, hallways, and green rooms. Several backstage areas have been given a spackling of lighting effects and other decor to creep it up.

The small tour of the facilities features great looks the theatre’s historical legacy (and even stepping into the pipe organ pit) along with some frightfully cheestastic ghost stories and special moments that are quintessentially Disney.

HOCUS POCUS was only playing for a limited one weekend only engagement but starting October 22, you can come back for the annual 4D spectacle of Tim Burton’s THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

Not only is the film shown in crystal clear 3D but it also boasts a ton of special in-theater effects like smoke, wind, snow and more! It’s a definite must-not-miss treat! The Spooktakular Soiree is an extra cost in addition to just regular movie tickets so if you’re interested in a wholesome spooky yet Disney-friendly evening with the family you might definitely want to consider it!
