If you’re visiting Universal Fan Fest Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, you can partake in a quick and easy scavenger hunt quest that will reward you with a commemorative 3D-printed Sylgar goldfish souvenir commemorating the Dungeons and Dragons: Secrets of Waterdeep immersive walk-through!

Here’s everything you need to know about the Universal Fan Fest Nights Sylgar Scheme Adventure.

 

How to Play

  • Create your Digital Fan Card from the Universal Fan Fest Nights landing page at ⁠backlot.club.
    • NOTE: You’ll need an NBCUniversal account to play which you can create from that page.
  • Access the locations map to find exactly where each of the three separate medallion kiosks throughout the park.
    • Two are on the upper lot and one is on the lower lot. They’re not hard to find and will be lit with a glowing cube.
  • Scan at each kiosk on the touch point to collect all three digital medallions which will be added to your Digital Fan Card collection.
    • If the tap-to-scan isn’t working, you can also use the unique four digital codes on each machine.
    • The three codes are 7544, 7204, 1955.
      • Pro-Tip: The experience is not geofenced so you can enter these codes once you’re at the event and you can enter them in any order.
  • Once you have all three digital medallions in your Backlot Club account, head to the Universal Studio Store near the main entrance to redeem for a real souvenir of an articulated Sylgar the gold fish!

Backstory

One quest. One goldfish. 12 nights to save everything. Sylgar, Xanathar’s beloved goldfish has floated into the afterlife. The clock is ticking to find a flawless replacement before it notices and chaos erupts. Join the Dungeon Master (DM) for a parkwide D&D adventure during Universal Fan Fest Nights, Apr 23-May 16, 2026.

Xanathar’s One True Love

  • The beholder Xanathar is a ruthless crime lord in Waterdeep who cares for nothing, except Sylgar, his goldfish. Sylgar is the one thing Xanathar treasures, and as such, one of his greatest weaknesses.
  • Where to find it:
    • Secure your digital New Recruit Token and make your way to The Quiet Truth tower to learn the truth about Sylgar.
  • HINT
    • In the bustling streets of Waterdeep, a nondescript man approaches you. “I might have work for you, if you’re interested.” You eye him up and down, suspecting he’s a member of the Xanathar Guild. He needs help sourcing a particular species of fish. You try to gather details, but he seems hesitant to share more. “Do you want a job or not?” is all he replies.

The Quiet Truth

  • Sylgar has floated into the afterlife. You must find the perfect replacement before Xanathar discovers his precious goldfish has passed and chaos erupts. It’s true; Sylgar is secretly replaced by Xanathar’s staff every time he croaks.
  • Where to find it:
    • Collect your digital The Quiet Truth medallion and continue to A Name Reused tower to complete your quest.
  • HINT
    • You wander through a dark pathway, a flicker of green flames growing ahead. A flameskull appears, sending shivers down your spine. You nervously lower your head as you pass. It demands to know your intent. You’re hesitant, but decide to share your new quest. It instructs you to seek a fish nearby, assuring you it is what you seek.

A Name Reused

  • With a limited lifespan, Xanathar is delusional to think his precious fish will live as long as him. Your guild mates have found the perfect replacement, but you can collect your own at Universal Studio Store. Congratulations. You have preserved peace under Waterdeep.
  • Where to find it:
    • Collect your digital Name Reused Token.
  • HINT
    • You have procured a fish, with the flameskull’s instructions, but alas, it is the wrong kind. You receive word that one of your guildmates has been successful in securing the perfect replacement. Relief settles over you, and the rest of the guild. There’s a consolation for you though, it awaits at Universal Studio Store.

Universal Fan Fest Nights takes place at Universal Studios Hollywood on select dates from April 23 through May 16, 2026.

Event dates include April 23-25; May 1-3, 7-9, and 15-16. The event will begin each event night at 7pm and tickets are now available for purchase.
