Well, hello there! OBI-WAN KENOBI: The Complete Series on a special Collector’s Edition release is ready to land in a remote desert spaceport near you on April 30, 2024.

With a hosted review copy, we’re taking a dive into what you get with the purchase of the home release of OBI-WAN KENOBI: The Complete Series.

As studios reconsider their streaming models these days — pulling content without notice (including Disney+) — it’s worrying to think about the future availability of your favorite Disney+ Originals. They might end up in the Disney Vault indefinitely, only to reappear later at an additional cost. That’s why having physical copies help give you higher ground on making sure you can maintain your Star Wars library on your own terms.

What You Get

As with other Disney+ titles being released lately, Disney has sweetened the pot for encouraging the purchase by including the complete series in a special Collector’s Edition packaging that includes a Steelbook release covered with beautiful artwork designed by artist Attila Szarka. Further, like a collectible prize in a Saturday morning box of cereal, this release comes with some nicely printed collectible concept art cards.

Bonus Features

There’s three great featurettes included here. They don’t exactly piece together a complete documentary the way Disney typically does on home entertainment releases but they do offer meaty bits of content looking behind the camera. The interviews filmed for these pieces feature cast and crew looking directly at the camera offering a more intimate approach to consuming the content. Below are the official descriptions of each.

  • Duels of Fate: Obi-Wan vs Vader – Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen examine the lightsaber battles of Obi-Wan and Darth Vader.
  • The Dark Times: Villains – Uncover the lore of the deadly Inquisitors, and Darth Vader’s iconic look.
  • Designing The Galaxy – Say hello to Leia’s loveable sidekick, Lola, then explore the new planets of the Star Wars galaxy.

The final bonus feature was a surprising one to have on this release and it’s Audio Commentary with director Deborah Chow on the series finale. She provides a bunch of great context for the artistic and story decisions made for the whole series offering anecdotes and tidbits about cast and crew along the way. It’s a shame we couldn’t get her input on all six episodes. But she shares some great stories about working with Ewan McGreggor, Hayden Christensen, Dave Flioni, Doug Chiang, and more.
