THE MARVELS are teaming up again, this time right in the comfort of your own home with the home release of the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Available now on Digital 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, the standard issue of the film is pretty, well, standard issue!
With a hosted copy of the film, we were able to take a full look at the offerings including deleted scenes, a gag reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes and an audio commentary from co-writer/director Nia DaCosta and VFX Supervisor Tara DeMarco.
Bonus Features
Starting off our review of the extra content material is a fun one called The Production Diaries. The end to end creation of the film was broken down into iconic moments, birthdays, and milestones captured in quick short bites. This was a simple watch but a really fun way to really get a sense for what it was like to be working on this picture.
Entangled is a more straightforward, expected, featurette taking behind the scenes look at the film, it’s three heroines, and how their stories (and powers) are interconnected in this film. Of course, tons of great footage of Iman Vellani with her big sisters Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris. Way too short but still a fun watch.
The Gag Reel felt surprisingly short considering the fun vibes that seemed to come across throughout the process of making the film. It’s always great to see the tension of serious moments cut with line flubs and production gaffes.
Deleted Scenes are a prerequisite and although they don’t come with any filmmaker commentary, it’s clear that these (mostly finished) scenes were all cut for timing and pacing. They were pretty entertaining though and expanded out various moments from the film.
- Captain-in-Residence – Kamala finds herself in Carol’s ship after an unexpected switch and incredulously picks up a call from Valkyrie.
- It’s Under Control – Carol, Kamala, and Monica find themselves brainstorming for solutions on Aladna.
- Space Yoga – Muneeba teaches yoga while an exasperated Nick Fury looks on.
- The Chase – Chaos ensues as Ty-Rone chases Kamala in a tension-filled scene.
Rounding out the bonus materials is an Audio Commentary with co-writer/director Nia DaCosta and VFX Supervisor Tara DeMarco sharing anecdotes and details from the production. This should prove to be a fun way to re-watch the film, looking forward to it.
Did I want more? The answer for ANY Marvel home release is always YES but the extras included here are still a fun vibe that felt the overall tone of the film. This is a fun romp that doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you loved the film, this will make a great addition to the collection.
