ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA is ready to burst across the multiverse and MouseInfo recently had the chance to sit down and learn from the insanely talented cast and creative team to learn more about the latest Marvel Studios film. Check out these five quantum-sized things we learned.
Scott Lang’s book is REAL, and it’s coming out in September
The movie opens with Scott Lang reading from his new memoir about saving the world, Look Out for the Little Guy. The inspirational tome isn’t mere fiction and will be in book stores everywhere September 5. When Paul Rudd mentioned it, Michelle Pfeiffer looked incredulous and asked “Who wrote it?” Without missing a beat, Rudd said, “Scott Lang.” Pfeiffer, our long-reigning queen, scoffed in disbelief.
Jonathan Majors is cooler than we’ll ever be
Majors discussed his process for playing Kang at length, and the details that go into differentiating the variants he portrays. Kang in QUANTUMANIA is a different Kang variant than the one he debuted in LOKI. Ultimately it boiled down to a philosophical statement about the character: “Kang gotta Kang.” Gonna be thinking about this one for awhile.
Scott is daddy
The central issue Scott faces in this film is his relationship with his daughter Cassie, and the time he feels like he’s missed with her. Even as everything else crumbles around him and the entire squad gets sucked into the quantum realm, Rudd said “he really wants to be a dad and that’s his main focus.”
Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are just happy to be here
The elder Pyms are adorable, and seemed the most at sea when the discussion turned toward larger Marvel mythology. At one point Michael Douglas turned to Kevin Feige and asked in all seriousness, “what is Phase 5?” Feige then explained what a phase is, and that it takes three phases to make a saga. Pfeiffer, for whom I would jump in front of a train, volunteered “I have no idea what I’m doing. I marvel at these guys, and they just get it, and I just copy what they do.” Mother!
The quantum realm was Rudd’s idea
Feige stated that during production of the first ANT-MAN film, Rudd suggested exploring the quantum realm as a place for the character’s story to go. What did Paul Rudd know and when did he know it??
