Universal Studios Hollywood is back once again with the 2022 Halloween Horror Nights. After a “lite” year in 2019 coming in off the pandemic closures, the event this year offers a robust roster of scares and ghoulish delights.
We were absolutely floored by Scarecrow: The Reaping for an amazingly-crafted story in a house that oozes with quality and personality. Halloween is a franchise that’s been, shall we say, done to death but it proved a power hitter for us this year. Meanwhile, Terror Tram Ventures into the Mind of Jordan Peele with a great injection of fun on a tried-and-true format and Universal Horror Hotel brought some promising IP in a decent house taking over the now-gutted Walking Dead attraction.
During a media preview, we were given access to the park to uncover all the terror. Join us now for a full look all aroundΒ Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights 2022!
The Houses
Scarecrow: The Reaping
RATING:Β πππππ
Absolute standout. This house is phenomenal. Cleverly executed, borrowing IP from Orlando’s event. Must-see. Do not miss!
Universal Monsters: Legends Collide
RATING: πππβ«β«
While last year’s Universal Monsters was an undoubted smash hit, this year’s leaves a little to be desired.
The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare
RATING: πππβ«β«
Inspired by the songs and albums of the award-winning singer. Great soundtrack, filled with twisted visuals.
The Horrors of Blumhouse
RATING: ππππβ«
These tend to be hit or miss, especially if you’ve never seen the movies on feature. This time it’s FREAKY and BLACK PHONE.
Universal Horror Hotel
RATING: πππβ«β«
Filling up innards of the former Walking Dead Attraction, this brings a fun original take of a haunted hotel and its mysterious string of bizarre deaths.
La Llorona: The Weeping Woman
RATING: ππππβ«
We’ve loved this house since it was first introduced. Creepily inspired by the Mexican tradition of the weeping woman, it’s still a fun haunt.
Halloween
RATING:Β πππππ
There’s been so many iterations of this house over the years but this one is a classic and it still just works. Simple and effective.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
RATING: πππβ«β«
Based off the wacky cult hit, this house delivers on light-hearted scares and hilarious devious clowns.
Terror Tram Ventures into the Mind of Jordan Peele
ππππβ«
A fresh revamp this year thanks in part to the sets from NOPE incorporated with US and original IP of Hollywood Harry. Always great to walk through sets for Bates Motel and the War of the Worlds.

Death Eaters Invade!
New this year, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is invaded by Death Eaters in search of those faithful to the Dark Lord while summoning the Dark Mark high above on the grounds of Hogwarts Castle.
Scare Zones
A small selection of scare zones are included this year including Clownsawz at the entrance, Sideshow Slaughterhouse on New York Street with murder-bent carnies, El Pueblo del Terror continuing the theme of the adjacent La Llorona maze, and theΒ Haunted Forest unearthing creepy creatures in a beautifully lit setting.
Entertainment
Jabbawockeez are back again this year, after checking it out the first few years we found it was not really an offering that was for us but for those who enjoy, it’s a great option to round out the offerings.
Dining
The Weeknd After Hours NightmareΒ BarΒ features fun drinks and various kids of loaded fries.Β The popular Dia de los Muertos themed area in Universal PlazaΒ is back featuring Mexican favorites, cocktails, and novelty items. JoJo Ice Cream offers themed treats Kill Klownz treats including the Killer Kone. Killer BBQ From Outer Space! brings a selection of noshables including to-die-for desserts.
Bites we sunk our teeth into this year included the satisfying Killer Funnel Fries with blood-red strawberry sauce, The oddly satisfying frozen apple pie a la mode Acid Pie, delectable Quesabirria Tacos with consommΓ©, and the standard but satisfying Esquites in a cup. All were winners with our haunt crew this year.
