We already knew Spaceship Earth at EPCOT would be getting a big update and today we got details that work on the new vision for the landmark attraction will start when the attraction closes on May 26, 2020.
As shared at last year’s D23 Expo, the next iteration of Spaceship Earth will focus on “the story of humanity, following our long journey from prehistoric humans to today brought to life with magic and depth that only Disney can deliver.”
Here’s a few details about the upgraded attraction…
- Moments you know and love will be updated in amazing ways — blended with brand-new scenes to tell a story about our human experience
- In the existing Egypt scene everything will be transformed through the power of light.
- New narration will be created
- Light plays a central role in our shared human journey, coming to life in dynamic ways in a celebration of the magic that’s possible when we all come together.

A reopening date for Spaceship Earth has not yet been announced but it expected to take roughly 2-years to complete.
