For several months now, if you’ve been checking out the MouseInfo pictorial updates, you’ve seen Disneyland make several small changes around the parks including making walkways wider, planter areas smaller, and increasing queue capacity space. It turns out these small scale projects are actually part of a large scale project that Disney has internally branded Project Stardust!

Created in anticipation of large crowds visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Project Stardust was set in place to maximize “guest comfort and access” for a park built more than 60 years ago to handle crowds much smaller than the ones that descend on the happiest place on Earth… daily!

The latest project underway now is a curb sloping on Main Street, USA to allow wheelchairs, strollers, and ECVs to more easily navigate the area, especially in the evenings when nighttime entertainment creates extra crowd flows. We’ve also seen queue enhancements at Dumbo, Matterhorn Bobsleds, “it’s a small world” and Peter Pan’s Flight. Plus, the new Tropical Hideaway restaurant utilizes a large chunk of mostly non-utilized space to offer more spaces to absorb the crowds. There have also been a number of planters and outdoor vending carts that have been adjusted to make room for additional walking space and new, more efficient stroller areas.

Sleeping Beauty Castle is also undergoing a little bit of a cosmetic rejuvenation over the coming months in order to be ready for the summer opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

At its completion, Project Stardust will offer more seating in Disneyland Park than ever before with more efficient use of space for walkways and storage.
