It’s now been just about a full week that the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT has been open and so we’re looking back now at all the hullabaloo just seven days ago at the grand opening ceremony and premiere party that took over Disney California Adventure.
Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, kicked off the event. He promised the attraction was just the beginning of more Marvel to be coming to Disney Parks and Disney California Adventure. He then introduced James Gunn–director of both Guardians of the Galaxy films–who shared about his dreams as a kid of realizing his visions in a theme park.
Guardians of the Galaxy stars Zoey Saldana (Gamora), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Pom Klementieff (Mantis) were all introduced to the stage. Benecio del Toro had a grand introduction offset by smoke, lights, dramatic music and several helpers from the Collector’s fortress who were remiss in saying that he should not be representing Taneleer Tivan. He assured them that it was fine.
At the very end of the ceremony, which was punctuated by a big explosion of pyrotechnics off the tower, they were joined by Marvel execs for Studios and Comics respectively: Matt Feige and Joe Quesada.
The whole evening was started off with a splash premiere party that included bits and bites, drinks and booze, live entertainment, and photo-ops.
