The inevitable “setup” song in a classic Disney musical, “We Know the Way” shows us a bit of the journey of the peoples in the upcoming aniamted feature MOANA. Since we first heard snippets of it, we already knew it was going to be one of our favorite songs from the movie. Granted, it’s one of the only songs we’ve really hard in full from Moana (other than the single version and low-quality movie version of Moana’s “How Far I’ll Go“ that we’ve already had stuck in our heads).
The song was created from a trust comprised of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina, and Opetaia Foa’i. No wonder it’s so magically wonderful. Good luck finding yourself NOT wanting to belt along with this one after you hear it. Aue, aue!
The film is set three thousand years ago when the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes MOANA, a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people.
During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) meets the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.
The MOANA SOUNDTRACK is available starting November 18, 2016.
MOANA sails into theaters on November 23, 2016.
