There’s a lot to be said about the upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. Without getting into spoilers, the film is a unique one. It breaks the mold for Marvel movies by delving perhaps deeper into the relationships and parallel journeys of its characters; arguably, moreso than ever before.
We had the opportunity recently to sit down with cast and crew at a press junket to get some insights on the upcoming Marvel feature. It was easy to see pretty quickly that these actors live out their on-screen relationships off-screen as good friends.
In this first of two parts, we’ll take a look at the hijinks from the special day. Today, we join #TeamIronMan…
Sitting in for Team Iron Man was Producer Kevin Feige, Emily VanCamp , Don Cheadle, Robert Downey Jr., Paul Bettany, and Director Anthony Russo.
No panel with Robert Downey Jr. could be less than entertaining, and this proved to be the case for CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. After the first two questions, RDJ interrupted and said he had a lot of questions to ask his fellow cast members and took control of the panel, which led to a few colorful answers. Several of them mentioned what it was like to work in the Georgia heat, Anthony giving praise to his cast for their performance through the summer sun.
The big discussion revolved around bringing in Spider-Man into the mix. Anthony spoke to this first, addressing the importance of bringing in characters that may not have had the emotional involvement to help balance the intensity of the situation.
While RDJ jokingly took credit for Tom Holland’s performance, he also addressed the reviews that say Spider-Man was the best part of the movie. “What I’ve learned slowly over time, once you make space for yourself, it’s all about the other people that you’re working with. And I think Tom did a great job.” Kevin Feige added, “Once Tom got cast, to all of our delight…I remember when he did the bedroom scene, Joe and I were sitting at the monitors saying, wow, the greatest gift you can give an actor is to put him in a scene with Robert Downey Jr.”
When you put that many superstars in the room, there is sure to be a certain amount of playful banter. When asked if there were any rivalries between the casts on opposing sides. RDJ responded, “Maybe on the next panel. Lots of burbee competitions and pull up stuff. You know what I mean.”
Despite RDJ’s best efforts, it’s clear that there is real admiration amongst all the actors who have worked together for so many years now. Though no real winner emerged from the press junket, we’ll have to wait and see who comes out on top in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR coming to theaters everywhere May 6, 2016.
But wait, there’s more!
This is the first of two parts. Check back tomorrow for the second half and conclusion of our look at the CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR press conference with #TeamCap!
