As the June 16 official opening date for The Shanghai Disney Resort draws closer, Disney has begun to release some behind the scenes photography from inside the newest Disney Park which is still under construction.
Since the outset, Disney has aimed with the new park to create a destination that is “authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese.” As such, while a traditional Magic Kingdom style park like Disneyland, the park has a unique DNA that separates it from any of the other parks.
One of the stand-out re-imaginings for the new park is the Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure attraction which turns the traditional attraction on its side introducing new technological advances including new state of the art animatronics for Davy Jones among others. The attraction will also utilize wrap around screens to introduce the swashbuckling world to Chinese guests.
Another twist on a familiar Disney Parks staple is the land known as Adventure Isle which will include a Roaring Rapids attraction within the gigantic new Roaring Mountain which is home to the fabled beast the Q’aráq. This will also be home to the debut of the new Soaring Over the Horizon attraction that will also be coming Disney California Adventure and Epcot as Soarin’ Around the World.
The centerpiece for the park’s Tomorrowland is the massive TRON Lightcycle Power Run coaster attraction. The track travels inside and outside of a color-shifting canopy.
Another new offering in the park, Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, is a peaceful river journey past vignettes of classic Disney aniamted features including MULAN, TANGLED, ALADDIN, THE LITTLE MERMAID, and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. The river meanders in and around Fantasyland, even journeying underneath the Storybook Castle.
There’s a few more straight forward repurpose additions coming including the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
