This September, D23 is celebrating the art of Disney animation at the place where Walt and his staff revolutionized the art form: the historic Walt Disney Studios.
The event kicks off with a celebration of Disney animation through the world of Ink and Paint. Join Mindy Johnson, author of the forthcoming book Ink & Paint—The Women of Walt Disney’s Animation, for a lively conversation with Inking and Painting artists Wilma Baker, Ginni Mack, and Carmen Sanderson. These former Disney staff members, who worked on films from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) to The Lion King (1994), will recall stories from every decade of Disney animated features to utilize this artistic process!
Then, before a special screening of Pinocchio (1940)—considered the most beautifully realized and technically perfect of the Disney animated features—author and historian J.B. Kaufman will take the stage to share the incredible history of the film, which celebrates 75 years in 2015. After the film, guests will be able to purchase J.B.’s book, as well as other Disney merchandise, during shopping time at the Disney Studio Store.
