The Verge is reporting that Disney is in the process of creating a live-action or at least partially live-action prequel to Aladdin with a focus on GENIES. As it’s working title would suggest, the film would be the backstory to the blue buddy to the cunning street-rate from the 1992 animated classic.

As yet, there are no details as to casting or whether or not the titular Genie would be a live-action role or computer generated.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are penning the script to be produced by Tripp Vinson. The announcement follows a long line of live-action reboots of classic animated films and spin-offs including including sequels to Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland, plus new adaptations of The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, Mulan, and more.
