It is tradition at the Disneyland Resort to commemorate fallen heroes every Memorial Day and, once again, restaurants around the Resort are taking a small space to commemorate the brave and selfless American military members who have perished in the line of duty. An honorary table is set with specific and symbolic place settings and items to represent their courage and sacrifice.
Today, We Honor The Fallen Hero
On this Memorial Day, this table is reserved to honor the brave and selfless American military members who have perished on the battlefield, those who were taken prisoner on foreign soil and have not been returned to us, and those who went missing and have not yet found their way back home.
- The Table, which is set for one, is small, symbolizing the frailty of one isolated prisoner and everlasting concern on the part of the survivors for their missing loved ones.
- The Tablecloth is white, symbolic of the purity of the service member’s intentions to respond to their country’s call to arms.
- The Flags represent each individual branch of the Armed Forces flying in unity under the American flag.
- The Single Red Rose in the vase, signifies the blood that many have shed in sacrifice to ensure the freedom of our beloved United States of America. This rose also reminds us of the family and friends of our missing comrades who keep the faith, while awaiting their return.
- The Red Ribbon represents the love of our country, which inspired them to answer the nation’s call.
- The Slice of Lemon on the bread plate represents the bitter fate of the missing;
- Salt sprinkled on the bread plate is symbolic of the countless fallen tears of families as they wait.
- The Inverted Glass represents the fact that the missing and fallen cannot partake.
- The Lit Candle is reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our hearts to illuminate their way home, away from their captors, to the open arms of a grateful nation.
- The Empty Chair symbolizes that the missing and fallen are not present.
