The popular Amphibia series emerged from the depths to hit San Diego Comic-Con 2025 with a flurry of nostalgia for the show and peeks forward into the future with an upcoming Tokyo Pop collaboration on a new graphic novel series.
Here’s some of what we learned at the “Explore Disney Amphibia with Matt Braly” panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025.

The panel was moderated by Kae Winters and featured Amphibia creator Matt Braly who was joined by story artists Danny Lind and Drew Applegate, and TOKYOPOP editor Andy Rogers for a panel that served as a long-overdue farewell to the series which ended its run during the pandemic. The panel touched on the legacy of the show but also the upcoming 10-issue graphic novel series Amphibia: Strange Voyrage.
Below are some of the highlights from the panel.
- Braly is exploring new animated Amphibia content—not a new series, but possibly a special.
- The Art of Amphibia book was a special joy since it’s not often (especially for Disney titles) that you get a good look at the largely unseen creative inner workings for animated series
- Marcy’s Journal: A Guide to Amphibia was developed while the final episodes aired, letting the team address fan questions directly.
- Fans often ask if Gravity Falls is canonically connected. Braly mused wryly that he gets asked this often and perhaps the worlds are united or perhaps takes place in a world where the TV show exists in the other world
- They commented on being glad the original name Amphibiland was changed to just Amphibia — it’s just too many letters!
- Blue Anne was inspired by anime, especially Dragon Ball. Character design influences included Pepper Ann and Betty Spaghetti dolls. Even Sonic the Hedgehog.
- In Amphibia: Strange Voyage the crew sails aboard The Sea Snail, with Polly showing off new Tony Stark-style tech. Several unfinished page layouts were shown to fans in attendance
