There has been much speculation, innuendo, outuendo but at long, long, last it has been confirmed that Muppet*VIsion 3D and Muppet Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios WILL be closing to make way for the recently announced Monster’s Inc expansion. The Muppets aren’t leaving though, they’re packing up and heading over for a retheme of Rockin’ Roller Coaster in the same park.
Here’s what we know about the new Monster’s Inc land expansion, Muppet*Vision 3D closure, and the Muppets Rockin’ Roller Coaster retheme.
Monsters, Inc. expansion
As confirmed at D23 earlier this year, the new land inspired by the Monster’s, Inc. franchise will be taking over the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It will boast:
- A highly-anticipated suspended door coaster
- Themed dining and shopping
- A whole new theater show
Muppet*Vision 3D
To make way for the monsters, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and more of their friends will be moving right along with the closure of the classic Muppet*Vision 3D attraction.
As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.
But the Muppets aren’t leaving the park, they’re heading to Sunset Boulevard with a whole new adventure on the horizon…
Muppet Rockin’ Roller Coaster
Still unnamed, a new version of the Rockin’ Roller Coaster experience will soon feature The Muppets and the Electric Mayhem characters as they team up for a rockin’ music festival!
Disney promises laughter, screams, and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy and of course, plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise.
Closures and Openings
No target openings have yet been confirmed for any of the upcoming closures or construction but Disney has promised “there’s still enough time” to catch Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and Muppet*Vision 3D before their final curtain calls.
