Midsummer Scream has become an expected and reliable source for some of the latest news from fan favorite haunts in California and Knott’s Scary Farm continued that trend with a few teases for this year.
From the confirmation of Wax Works final year to the return of The Hanging and even more interactive lanterns, there’s a lot in store on the old berry farm.
Panel guests included Jeff Shadic (Manager, Park Decor), Bill Meier (Area Manager, Wardrobe), Daniel Miller (Creative Designer), and Jeff Tucker (Show Director, Writer) who were moderated in the panel discussion by Pasta Berkey (Production Management).
Wax Works
- This will be the final year in the fog for the infamous Wax Works maze which first debuted in 2019.
- There will be fun Easter Eggs (from past mazes) placed throughout the Wax Works to look for including one of the Wax figures (wearing a tutu) is actually an original figure from the original Doll House maze!
The Hanging
- The Hanging returns once again to Knotts’s Scary Farm this year!
- Originally canceled in 2019, the Hanging was brought back with a bang in 2023. They had more than 40 different treatments of the script before landing on the final version in which the hanging victim was a Karen
- The show was moved to the Wagon Camp which served as the perfect venue for the show’s revamp. The original show took place in Calico Square and had a scary tone and was a hanging of the Knott’s classic character, the Green Witch.
Interactive Lanterns
- Last year, interactive lanterns were introduced to the Haunt experience and proved to be a popular addition that enhances the experience with RFID trackers all around the park — and in mazes!
- The lantern interactions are getting bigger and better for this year! For instance, Forsaken Lake will have some new additions….
Did You Know
- Each event night, 43 makeup artists airbrush over 400 different spooky staff members taking about 20 minutes per person
- Many of the prosthetics and masks used during Scary Farm are actually custom created on-site at the Farm.
- Knott’s has their own wig artist who started as an usher and worked her way up into costuming.
- There’s at least 3,000 costume pieces built to fit a variety of performers in different body sizes. Fabrics are sourced to last for replacement costumes and replacements for at least five year to ensure product availability
