The explosive journey of Cassian Andor is ready to come home with the ANDOR: The Complete First Season on a special Collector’s Edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray release that’s landing on April 30, 2024.
With a hosted review copy, we’re taking a dive into what you get with the purchase of the home release of ANDOR: The Complete First Season.
With so many studios starting to re-evaluate their streaming business and pulling content without warning (including Disney+) it can be worrisome to know if your favorite Disney+ Originals may some day not be available anymore — heading into the great beyonds of the proverbial Disney Vault until the Mouse is ready to pull it back out (at additional cost to you). That uncertainty is enough to convince us that having hard copies of everything is all the more important.
What You Get
With this release, Disney has sweetened the pot for encouraging the purchase by including the full first season of the series in a special Collector’s Edition packaging that includes a Steelbook release covered with beautiful artwork designed by artist Attila Szarka. Further, like a collectible prize in a Saturday morning box of cereal, this release comes with some nicely printed collectible concept art cards.
Bonus Features
What about bonus features? You bet! Disney has packed in some nicely-produced pieces here all on the first of three discs in this set. Our Blu-ray player doesn’t provide a scrubber with timing to let us know the exact length of the extras but there are five featurettes included here coming in somewhere between 5-10 minutes each. Each is a standalone piece that all tie together into a singular “Andor: Declassified” documentary. Each chapter follows the flow of the first season and each chapter is named for the planet on which the action is taken.
There’s a fantastic mix here of cast and crew interviews along with awesome behind the scenes footage that showcases how much of this show was tangibly created. While Disney has really forged the way in immersive screen-based use of their StageCarft technology, the behind-the-scenes pieces really show much of the beautiful gritty world was actually designed, hewn, sewed, built, painted, and assembled. From shooting on location in Scotland to slithering about the massive village set on Ferrix, this galaxy feels so believably real because it actually WAS. It’s reassuringly brilliant to see this commitment to making a galaxy far, far away feel so truly authentic.
Below are the official summaries for each chapter of Andor: Declassified.
- Ferrix Part 1: Imperial Occupation – Tony Gilroy, Kathleen Kennedy and Diego Luna discuss the series’ origins.
- Aldhani: Rebel Heist – Join the shoot in Scotland with character spotlights, rebel training, stunts, a VFX breakdown and more.
- Coruscant: Whispers of Rebellion – Explore the stories of ISB agent Dedra, Senator Mon Mothma and spymaster Luthen Rael.
