Disney California Adventure has officially kicked off its 2024 Lunar New Year Celebration and it brings with it once again a miniature food festival to ensure a tasty new year! Several fan favorites return plus new menu options are ready to tempt the palate.

We tried several options this year and invite you now for a first taste of the food and drink available at Disney California Adventure for the 2024 Lunar New Year! ENJOY!

Sip and Savor Tasting Passport

The 2024 Lunar New Year Sip and Savor Tasting Passport is available to ALL guests which means you have the opportunity to taste your way through a choice of six different dishes or non-alcoholic beverages from participating Festival Marketplace kiosks.

Untitled photoRedemptions for the Sip and Savor Tasting Passport can also be used at participating locations around the park where tasting-sized portions of are offered.

Prices:

  • Regular ($46)
  • Magic Key passholders ($43)

VALUE ALERT: To get the most bang for your buck out of the passport, you’ll just want to make sure you don’t get any of the items that cost less than $7.67 (regular) or $7.17 (Magic Key passholder). Considering the prices, that shouldn’t be terribly difficult as long as you avoid desserts and drinks!

Know Before You Go

WHERE: The pass can be purchased at a number of places you might not expect (with shorter lines) including Sip and Savor Cart, Elias & Co., Julius Katz & Sons, Rushin’ River Outfitters, Seaside Souvenirs, and Festival Merchandise carts

TWO TYPES OF PASSES: For the first time, Disney is offering two different types of passes. They cost the same, they just work a little bit differently.

  • Attached Coupon Tabs: This is the traditional way lanyards have worked in the past. Simply present your pass to a Cast Member at the location with the coupon(s) still attached.
  • Scannable Pass: This is a newer way to help streamline the process, a Cast Member at the location will scan your pass. Then simply provide the 4-digit code located on your pass.

Save Time! Festival Marketplace kiosks are equipped to sell you items from ANY of the kiosks. So if you find a kiosk with a shorter line, you can jump in that one to order your food from another kiosk. Just take your receipt to the appropriate kiosks to get your items!

NOTE: This only works for Festival Marketplace kiosks. While you can use your Sip and Savor pass at select locations around the park, you can only pre-order your Sip and Savor redemptions from Festival Marketplace kiosks.

What We Tried at Festival Marketplaces

The Festival Marketplaces are small kiosks that dot the park. While themed options exist all around the resort, the offerings from these locations are specifically centered on the event.

Bamboo Blessings

Taro Vietnamese-style Iced Coffee

20240217_103901

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Taro Vietnamese-style Iced Coffee ($7) features Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Co. Vietnamese-style Coffee, cocoa powder, and condensed milk garnished with a taro chocolate sweet cream. We often find Disneyland specialty cold brews tend to not be very good but this one is so satisfying. The coffee is strong and the taro sweet cream is thick and a perfect complement.

Mickey Chinese Hot Dog Bun

20190127_114542

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫

Mickey Chinese Hot Dog Bun ($7.50) is a great dish if you get it when it’s fresh. We’ve tried this in previous years it was offered and found the freshness of the bread is crucial to the success of the dish so if you happen to be at the kiosk when a fresh batch has arrived then you should find yourself pleased with the offering.

Strawberry Milk Tea Macaron

20240217_103823

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Strawberry Milk Tea Macaron ($7.75) features strawberry buttercream with milk tea center. No notes. Just a nice simple (gigantic) Mickey shaped macaron. The milk tea flavor in the center doesn’t really come through but strawberry does and it’s great. It tastes like artificial strawberry but not in a bad way.

More to Try:

  • Lunar New Year Punch: Mango nectar, tangerine and grapefruit juices, and banana and coconut syrups garnished with mango jellies (Non-alcoholic beverage) (NEW)
  • Lunar Punch Cocktail: Coconut rum, mango nectar, tangerine and grapefruit juices, and banana and coconut syrups garnished with a purple orchid (NEW)

Longevity Noodle Co.

Shrimp Lo Mein

Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫

Shrimp Lo Mein ($9 Sip and Savor, $15.49 full size) feature lo mein noodles tossed with shrimp, mushrooms, cabbage, corn, and bell pepper. We had the Sip and Savor version from the booth (not the full-sized portion from the Paradise Garden Grill). The dish is perfectly fine but nothing that we’re going crazy about. Shrimp were a little dry.

More to Try:

  • Garlic Noodles: Long noodles tossed in zesty garlic butter with parmesan
  • Dragon Cocktail: Dragonberry rum, white rum, lychee nectar, dragon fruit and Chinese five-spice syrups, lime juice, and house-made coriander tea garnished with a dried dragon fruit wheel

Lucky 8 Lantern

Quesabirria Eggroll

20230121_114601

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Quesabirria Eggroll ($9.00) is filled with Oaxaca cheese, beef birria, and a side of guajillo pepper consommé. We’ve tried this in previous years it was offered and just like the tacos served at Cocina Cucamonga, this is one mega tasty dish. The eggroll wrapper makes a suitable replacement for a tortilla and the dipping sauce is a (dare we say: sippable) delight.

Mandarin Orange Mousse Cake

Untitled photo Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Mandarin Orange Mousse Cake ($6.75) features layers of mandarin mousse with vanilla cake and clementine compote finished with white chocolate crunch balls and a tangerine glaze. There’s a reason this delicate delectable is back, it’s as tasty as it is pretty. Sweet but not overpowering. Great textures.

More to Try:

  • Hibiscus Apple Soju-rita: Blanco tequila, grapefruit liqueur, soju, green apple and hibiscus syrups, house-made hibiscus tea, and lemon juice garnished with a dried apple chip (NEW)
  • Mango Melon Cocktail: Overproof rum, baijiu, allspice liqueur, mango nectar, rock melon syrup, and lime juice topped with grapefruit soda and garnished with a lime wheel (NEW)

Prosperity Bao & Buns

BBQ Pork Bun

Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫

BBQ Pork Bun ($9) is topped with kimchi mayo and garlic chili crunch. It’s a perfectly serviceable bao although the filling was a little dry and and we would have loved little more of that chili garlic crunch on top.

Kung Pao Bao

20240217_110003

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫

Kung Pao Bao ($9) is filled with with plant-based chicken, toasted peanuts, and scallions. You wouldn’t know this wasn’t real chicken and the sauce here is gingery and delicious. The peanuts pair well.

More to Try:

  • Kung Pao Bao is filled with with plant-based chicken, toasted peanuts, and scallions. (NEW)
  • Brewery X Grapefruit Panda Pool Party Bamboo Rice Lager (NEW)
  • Harland Brewing Co. Tangerine Dragon Fruit Hefeweizen (NEW)
  • Stereo Brewing Co. Jasmine Tea Lager (NEW)
  • Eagle Rock Brewery Lychee IPA (NEW)
  • Dragon Beer Flight (NEW)
  • Tsingtao with Frozen Mango Beer Foam

Red Dragon Spice Traders

Spicy Fried Rice

Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️⚫⚫⚫⚫

Spicy Fried Rice ($8) with tofu and crispy peas is one of the only fried rice dishes this year and it is supremely disappointing. The tofu was spicy but we wouldn’t necessarily say flavorful. The rice was well cooked but incredibly bland. A couple hits of soy sauce and siracha helped.

Red Spice Fried Chicken Bites

20230121_115820

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫

Red Spice Fried Chicken Bites ($8.75) is fried chicken chicharrons in spicy red chile sauce. We’ve tried this in previous years it was offered and they’re pretty good but the success of this dish is 100% going to rely on if it’s fresh (and crispy) or not. Ours was incredibly soggy and chewy. Still, despite the texture disappointment, the flavors were robust — both sweet and spicy.

Peach Basil Collins

Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫

Peach Basil Collins ($17) is made with gin, ginger liqueur, white peach purée, lemon juice, and house-made Thai basil syrup topped with Topo Chico and garnished with a pansy. Although slightly more syrupy than we would have liked, this is still a refreshing and delightful cocktail.

More to Try:

  • Red Spice Fried Chicken Bites: Fried chicken chicharrones in spicy red chile sauce
  • Guava Whiskey Cocktail: Whiskey, ginger liqueur, guava nectar, coconut cream, and lime juice garnished with a lime wheel

Wrapped with Love

Fried Lemongrass Chicken Dumplings

Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫

Fried Lemongrass Chicken Dumplings ($8.75) are served with plum sauce. They are crispy which means their freshness is of the utmost importance. The flavors are good and the plum sauce is rich and sweeet. Ours were mid-shelf life and we didn’t love them.

Steamed Pork & Vegetable Dumplings

Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫

Steamed Pork & Vegetable Dumplings ($8.75) are served with black garlic sauce. These dumplings are not doing anything new here, they’re a solid straight forward choice. The magic comes in with that tangy, salty, umami black garlic sauce which was the star here.

More to Try:

  • Yuja-Pineapple Cooler: Pineapple juice, yuja purée, rice milk, and condensed milk garnished with a cherry and coconut foam (Non-alcoholic beverage) (NEW)
  • Raspberry Oat Milk Tea: Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Co. Ceylon Tea, raspberry and demerara syrups, and oat milk garnished with skewered raspberries (Non-alcoholic beverage)

What We Tried at Other Sip and Savor Locations

Beyond the Festival Marketplace kiosks, there’s a bunch of options all around the park that will offer Sip and Savor taste-size portions instead of the full-size entrees.

Paradise Garden Grill

Shrimp Lo Mein

Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫

Shrimp Lo Mein ($9 Sip and Savor, $15.49 full size) feature lo mein noodles tossed with shrimp, mushrooms, cabbage, corn, and bell pepper. We had the Sip and Savor version from the booth (not the full-sized portion from the Paradise Garden Grill). The dish is perfectly fine but nothing that we’re going crazy about. Shrimp were a little dry.

Korean-style BBQ Chicken

20230121_110407

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Korean-style BBQ Chicken ($17.99 for a full-size portion) is served with steamed rice kimchi, and pickled cucumber. We’ve tried this in previous years it was offered as a Sip and Savor portion and it was a contender for us as best of the fest. Chicken has a nice char , flavors of the marinade are fantastic. The veggies and rice are a great complement.

Pork Belly Bahn Mi

20230122_142835

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Pork Belly Bahn Mi ($14.49 for a full-size portion) is a pretty nice option. We’ve tried this in previous years it was offered and the veggies were all nice and crispy and the baguette was a nice compliment. An entree sized portion is available.

Bulgogi Fried Rice

20240123_132207

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫

Bulgogi Fried Rice ($14.49 for full-size portion) with plant-based beef, kimchi, egg, pickled cucumber, green onion, and sesame seeds. Great flavors, a different taste with every bite but the dish was missing little bit of texture, needed some crunch.

More to Try:

  • Mango Pudding with a hint of coconut milk topped with mango and a chocolate décor
  • Tiger Milk Boba Tea with Brown Sugar Boba (Non-alcoholic beverage)

Sonoma Terrace

Gochugaru Shrimp Roll

20240217_112054

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫

Gochugaru Shrimp Roll ($9.75) features gochugaru-marinated shrimp on a potato roll with kimchi slaw, gochujang mayonnaise, spicy pickle spear. This was such a satisfying option this year. The shrimp are saucy and delicious with the fresh crunch and bite from the pickle and slaw.

Studio Catering Co. and Hollywood Lounge

Char Siu-style Ribs

Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫

Char Siu-style Ribs ($8.49) are char siu-braised pork ribs with Asian-inspired glaze topped with roasted peanuts and scallions. They are very saucy but the meat was overcooked. If you’ve ever had that bright red char siu pork from a takeout place, that’s the flavor of the sauce here. The peanuts were not seasoned or prepared in any way, just garnished on top.

Select Outdoor Vending Carts

Chicken Bao

Untitled photo

RATING: ☀️⚫⚫⚫⚫

Chicken Bao ($8.5) is a steamed bao with chicken, butternut squash, and makrut lime served with Vietnamese sweet tangy dipping sauce. We tried this in previous years it was offered and were very excited for it but it was hands down the worst thing we tried. Nothing about this dished worked.
