Room Tour
Before we take a closer look at everything included, enjoy this room tour video below taking a closer look at Room 0155 at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel.
What’s Included
The Duo Studios feature a theme of THE JUNGLE BOOK. The accommodation is specifically designed for two people and is a first-of-its-kind for Disney Vacation Club. It features a compact layout with fold out bed, kitchenette, and bathroom. This room type may sleep up to 2 guests — cribs and high chairs may be available upon request.
As some of the cheapest offerings in the portfolio for this property, the Duo Studios are going to appeal most to the Disneylanding couple without kids who are gonna rope-drop in the morning and close out the night once the gates close. There’s hardly any room to really entertain any guests unless possibly you are in one of the Duo Studios with a balcony. Also, while no one wants to work while on vacation, you’d be hard pressed to be very productive in here as there’s no desk or even a table in this room.
Bed and Common Area
The Duo Studio maximizes an efficient use of layout to pack function into the small space. The room features an accessible-height queen-size bed, a 55″ flat screen-TV, and a closet with an iron, spare pillows, and blanket. The large dresser serves as both storage for the room and also houses a wall safe plus amenities for a quasi-kitchenette. The bathroom includes a roll-in shower and, of course, a hair dryer. Disney rooms tend to have the toilet behind a separate door but these accommodations do not offer this feature.
The theme of THE JUNGLE BOOK is evident throughout the space including an area rug with jungle motif and the lyric “The Bare Necessities of Life Will Come To You” heard sung in the film. The jungle motif carries through into design elements in the closet and on the curtains as well as in the bathroom where you can see light-up jungle vines on the mirror. Artwork on the walls features concept art and sketches from the film. There is a relief on the wall behind the television evoking some of the Indian architecture also seen in the film.
Kitchenette
There is no dedicated kitchenette space in this room type but you will still find a mini refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker. The only sink in the room is in the bathroom. You’ll also find additional accoutrement that includes proper dishes, glasses, and eating utensils, can and bottle opener, corkscrew, and ice bucket. Although they are not in the room, you can also request a blender, mop, broom, and dustpan.
If microwaved leftovers are not on your docket, a room service menu is available and includes a variety of options including a *gulp* $75 steak and shrimp dinner.
Accessibility Amenities
While all rooms at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel should be manageable for guests with varying needs, the wheelchair-specific rooms offer a few amenities that will help to make guests in wheelchairs have an even more comfortable stay.
The counter tops measure to heights of approximately 32″ with the sink having a recess to allow for an easy roll-up. The bathroom also features a roll-in shower with handrails and bench plus the doorway out onto the patio is almost completely flat for easy access. Although we did not measure the height of the bed, we did notice that it was significantly lower than in other rooms. The bed is also not a fold out bed as in other Duo Studios meaning it cannot be collapsed into a sofa. There is also significantly more space to the side of the bed to allow clearance for a wheelchair. The curtains also have an easy to grab rod for moving the curtain back and forth.
To contrast the changes, you can see what a standard Duo Studio with The Jungle Book theme looks from our previous visit.
The View
Duo Studios are available in three main types. Preferred View (of either the Palette Pool or the Monorail Pool and surrounding areas); Standard View (gardens, street, or parking areas); and Duo Studio Garden (these are are separate from the main tower and feature easy access to the pool with either a patio or a balcony.) You can see the view here is from the first floor of a Duo Studio Garden with a great view of the Palette Pool and Steamboat Willie play area.
The space in-between the balcony and the pool area seemed a bit odd, we almost would have preferred having a larger patio or added the space to make the actual room larger. Also, from this particular room, you can see in the below photo two green speaker structures which were quite loud. Unfortunately, the windows and balcony door are not soundproofed so when the pool atmosphere music is on during the early morning and into the late evening, you can hear it from the room, even with the door closed. We are heavy sleepers and were not bothered by it but it’s something to consider if you are a light sleeper. You can take a listen for yourself in this video we shared to social media.
The Electrical Outlets and USBs
We found 4 available wall outlets that were not in use in addition, there was 1 USB ports and 1 Type C ports making for 6 different ways to power up your tech in this Duo Studio. We were surprised that this room seems to have far fewer ways to charge any any other room type. In a standard Duo Studio that was not wheelchair accessible, we had double — at least 12 different power sources. We’re not sure why this particular room was had so few options.
In particular, we surprised to see the kitchenette had a space where an electrical outlet clearly should have been (which in other rooms offers two additional AC outlets plus an additional USB and Type C port) but it instead had a solid plate over it leaving the adjacent Keurig machine with no option to get plugged in. We ended up moving our coffee machine to the bathroom to enjoy our morning cuppa.
