Universal Studios Hollywood hit the start button Wednesday evening to officially introduce its new Super Nintendo World. When it opens to the public on Friday, February 17, 2023, it will welcome guests to enjoy a family-friendly augmented reality Mario Kart attraction, immersive in-world activities tracked via mobile app, expressive character meet and greets, a super-themed new restaurant, and more.
During the grand opening ceremony, we got a special visit from Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario Bros. plus Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach — ready to take a look? Letsa go!
The land was overtaken by a blue glow with whimsical green icons floating across the facades of the new land. To kick things off a series of dancers took to the stage for a high-energy routine.
To kick things off, Tom Mehrmann (President and COO Universal Parks and Resorts, Pacific Rim) took to the stage to give everyone a warm welcome (on a very cold night).
Scott Strobl (Executive Vice President and General Manager, Universal Studios Hollywood) spoke about the collaboration with Nintendo and the undertaking to bring the world to life a second time here in Hollywood after building it in Japan. He also noted that they are hard at work on a third version of the land in Orlando. He also welcomed to the stage the stars of the evening Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach!
Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Super Mario Bros.) gave a jubilent welcome to his long-time friends and gave touching words to welcome everyone to the new addition. He spoke in Japanese and had a translator.
With pleasantries out of the way, it was time for FIREWORKS!

Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood officially opened February 17, 2023 and is now open daily.
The new Super Nintendo World expansion is located inside of Universal Studios Hollywood park and access is included with regular park admission. Super Nintendo World is not a separate theme park.
