I will start right off saying that THE LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL is my first entry into LEGO STAR WARS universe but if this short film is any indication as to what I’m missing then I’ve got a lot of updating to do on my watch list.

Kelly Marie, Billie Dee, and Anthony D. confirmed for upcoming THE LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, #DisneyPlus

THE LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL is absolutely uproarious. It is cram-packed with laughs, jokes, references, and puns balanced with an easy-to-follow adventure story that really makes this an absolute delight — perhaps even a new holiday tradition.

Clocking in at just over 45 minutes, the new animated special is a riff off the original 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special inviting LEGO and Star Wars fans once more to Chewbacca’s homeworld of Kashyyyk for a Wookiee-sized celebration of the galaxy’s most cheerful and magical holiday, Life Day.

The special takes place after last year’s THE RISE OF SKYWALKER and inadvertently answers several fan questions including the matter of Finn’s Force sensitivity (is Rey his Jedi master?) and how she was able to excel at her own training with a comparative immense lack of resources at her disposal (is that what she was doing when she meditated?).

And while this short film is far from canon, we also get a cool merging of lore introduced in STAR WARS REBELS as Rey uncovers a key not unlike the one Ezra Bridger found into accessing the entire galaxy’s collective history… including the ability to change the events of the past. DUN DUN DUN!

Without giving anything away, hijinks ensue and there’s cameos from across the wide breadth of the fandom that should give just about every single STAR WARS fan — regardless of their entry point — something to enjoy. And yes, that even includes references to not just Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge but a certain digitally streaming set of heroes, too. Aww!

As far as voice talent, franchise stars Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) all make cameos but in very, very small capacity. Plus, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” vets Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), Tom Kane (Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn), James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Dee Bradley Baker (clone troopers) are all in tow to add an authentic SOUND to the hilarious visuals on screen.

This really is absolutely must-see holiday TV and if you’ve been on the fence about becoming a subscriber, it is definitely worth the $6.99 one-month entrance fee — plus, it grants you access to the entire streaming library! That’s a pretty sweet holiday deal and totally worth the credits.

THE LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL is ready to stream on Disney+ on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

The bigger question still remains, when will Disney+ get the ORIGINAL Star Wars Holiday Special??
