Do you love board games? Of course you do. Who doesn’t love board games!? Netmarble has just revamped its very popular Disney Magical Dice digital board game and we got a sneak peek. Did it get the coveted 5 golden suns?  Let’s find out.

First, I’m going to begin with a little info on the game – direct from the Publisher – Netmarble:

In Disney Magical Dice players will travel around the enchanted board, purchase their favorite characters’ landmarks, and relive classic Disney moments. The game will feature simplified game mechanics so that it’s easy for people of all ages to pick up and play.

The game will feature:

  • 30 beloved Disney characters from Mickey Mouse, Peter Pan, Stitch, Rapunzel, and more
  • Costume cards for your avatars from classic Disney heroes to villains
  • Various locations from all Disney properties like Arendelle (Frozen), Fantasyland (Disneyland), Captain Hook’s Jolly Roger (Peter Pan), and more
  • Different game modes for solo or multiplayer play using Bluetooth or an internet connection
  • Collectible and upgradable pieces, dice, landmarks, items, etc.
  • Themed events featuring groups/sets of characters and landmarks

I have always loved board games like The Game of Life, Monopoly and Clue.  However, we are living in a digital world and I am a digital girl.  So, when I heard I could not only play a game similar to one of my all-time favorites but on my phone AND with Disney characters?  My first thought was “Um … yes please!”

If Disney Magical Dice sounds like something you’ve heard of before …. That’s because it is. The original game was Disney’s first mobile board game and came out a little over a year ago.  It has recently been re-released with more characters, different modes of game play, improved graphics and an extra dose of pixie dust.

If you aren’t familiar with the former version of the game, the rules are simple: travel around the board purchasing property and landmarks from classic and new Disney movies and try to outsmart and out earn your opponent. Basically – Monopoly with Disney landmarks and characters.  The game offers themed boards like Fantasyland, Mickey and Friends and Frozen.  Each board gives you the opportunity to ‘buy’ your favorite Disney landmarks.

“Aww.  I love these kind of games but I HATE going to ‘jail’,”  you say.

“You end up in locations like the Haunted Mansion.  How much fun is that!?”

Never fear!  In Magical Dice, you don’t go to ‘jail’.  You end up in locations like the Haunted Mansion.  How much fun is that!?

The game offers a lot of depth for those that want to go beyond a quick game or two.  With the ability to upgrade your characters, upgrade your dice and collect landmarks in multiplayer mode – there is something for all skill levels.

I did play the first version of this game and I will say I miss the characters moving around more.  There were a few changes that were made that … maybe could have stayed the same.  However, the game – itself – is solid and fun.  It’s a quick pick up and go or play with family sort of game.

RATING:

How did the game fair overall? I give it 4 out of 5 suns.  Maybe not best game ever but definitely not made by ruffians and thugs!
