In a not-so-cryptic tweet posted yesterday on Twitter, director Jon Favreau confirmed that he would be working on a now-confirmed live-action reboot of the animated classic THE LION KING.
Earlier this year, under Favreau’s direction, the live action re-imagining of THE JUNGLE BOOK earned the House of Mouse nearly $1 billion at the global box office. Will lightning strike on the savanna once more?
Two additional live-action re-imaginings opened in theaters this year including ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS and PETE’S DRAGON. Plus, early next year Disney debuts its live action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST on March 17, 2017.
Disney is in the middle of a seemingly lucrative era of taking classic animated films and re-imagining them as live-action reboots. Other already-announced adaptations include CRUELLA, TINKER BELL, and DUMBO projects as well as sequels to existing including MALEFICENT 2 and THE JUNGLE BOOK 2.
