Disney’s feel good movie of the year, QUEEN OF KATWE, based on the true story of Phiona Mutesi growing up in Uganda and learning how to play chess is coming to the EL CAPITAN THEATRE for a limited run from September 23 – October 6, 2016.
Over opening weekend (September 23-25), 20 year old Grand Master Chess Player Daniel Naroditsky of San Mateo, CA, will choose two audience members to show them tips and tricks of the chess game while projecting the game on the big screen. He will also be availiable in the lower lounge after the movie to answer questions about the strategic game.
QUEEN OF KATWE is based on the vibrant true story of a young girl from the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.
