Back for it’s 5th year, the ONCE UPON A TIME cast and creators made their way to San Diego Comic-Con for another entertaining and exciting panel plus special announcements.
Moderated by the vivacious OUAT fan, Yvette Nicole Brown (“Community”), audience members were treated to exclusive never before seen clips of their upcoming 5th season (OMG, MERIDA!!) and Q&A with the cast members. In attendance were the usual suspects including creators Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz plus stars Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Lana Parilla, Sean Maguire, Jennifer Morrison, Colin O’Donoghue, Emilie de Ravin, Robert Carlyle, plus green baddie Rebecca Mader.
Check out our TOP 12 moments from the panel below!
1. The Dark Swan
The Once Upon A Time panel made a powerful opening with a video showing the evolution of Emma becoming “The Dark Swan.”
Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan) said that as an actor, she’s “excited to try something totally new and different” and that “there is some fun to villainy!” The panel ended with an exclusive video of Emma in her dark character, ripping out a man’s heart and watching it shatter into a glittery dust in her hand.
2. Brave is Coming
At the end of the panel they treated audience members to a sneak peak surprise for Season 5. The video clip showed a woman shooting archery in the forest…a woman with curly red hair! Sure enough, Merida will be coming to Once Upon a Time this fall.
3. A Musical Episode
Most of the actors involved with the show are incredible singers, so it seems only natural that they would a musical episode. The fans want it, the cast wants it, all they need now is the writers to figure out a way to tie it into the script. One of the writers suggested a possible song; “It’s beginning to look like… a dark curse is coming.”
4. This Love Triangle Needs To Go On Maury!
Zelena is pregnant with Robin Hood’s baby, but Robin thought she was his wife Marian, but Zelena was posing as Marian, and Robin actually loves Regina, but he feels he needs to do the right thing and take care of Zelena and their baby! The writers thought whole situation was a perfect plot line for Maury Povich. The cast comically reacted to their situation in melodramatic fashion and entertained the audience.
5. Mr. Gold’s Pawn Shop is REAL!
It’s true! The storefront is located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World on the Streets of America (across from the Honey I Shrunk the Kids movie set area.) Even though it’s only a façade and you can’t go inside, you can peak through the windows and see real props from the show.
6. The Other Citizens of Storybrooke
Midway through the panel the audience was treated to a video clip of mock interviews with ‘real’ citizens of Storybrooke. Among the interviewees was Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s Patton Oswalt. Another town member was a drycleaner, who intended on leaving the craziness that is Storybrooke, but she saw Cruella roll into town, and knew she could make a fortune off the dry-cleaning on her coats! This bonus video will be available on the Season 4 DVD bonus features, available August 18th.
7. Hook’s Wish
An audience member asked Colin O’Donohue (Hook) “If the author was real, and Hook could change anything… what would it be?” Colin said it would be nice to have two hands, “so I can feel something with my other hand.” The audience roared with laughter at his accidental innuendo, while Jennifer blushed.
8. Accents
Several actors on OUAT have different accents than their characters; Robert Carlyle (Rumple) is actually Scottish and Colin is in fact Irish. During the Q&A section, an audience member pointed this out, then asked Jennifer to try and mimic Colin’s natural Irish accent. Though Jennifer’s attempt was heroically delivered, it was a far cry from Irish and hilarity ensued.
9. Who’s Who?
The playful cast was full of energy and had fun switching everyone’s name cards around. The cameraman struggled to find who was talking and jokingly panned the camera from side to side in search.
10. Guy-liner
Typically ‘Guy-liner’ is Captain Hook’s thing, but this past season Josh had an opportunity to wear eyeliner and claimed he loved rocking the look.
11. What it’s like to play Zelena?
Rebecca Mader (Zelena) stated that she “loves playing someone so batshit crazy!” The reason “it’s so fun to play someone so awful” is because Zelena “thinks she’s delightful!”
12. Funko Pop Dolls
Available this fall, you can have your very own Funko Pop Doll of 6 of your favorite OUTA characters. Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White) and Josh Dallas (Charming) said they are getting all of them for their new baby boy! Pre-orders are currently available.
