Starting Wednesday, October 7, Disneyland Magic Key holders will be able to enjoy two new changes to how the unpopular park registration system will work. For all levels of Magic Key, Disney will be removing the no-show penalty AND begin allowing same-day modification/cancellation of park reservations.
Here’s a look at everything you need to know about these changes for Magic Key holders.
Previously, Magic Key holders could face a 30-day reservation restriction after three no-shows within a 90-day period. This penalty was exacerbated due to Disney’s additional rule that park reservations could not be canceled or modified starting at 12am on the day of the reservation. This meant if you woke up sick or had something come up on the day of your reservation, you would face a no-show penalty if you did not click into the gate.
The inflexible system helped ween passholders off of years of built-in precedent of unrestricted park access (blockouts not withstanding) but was arguably always too strict a rule from the get go. The more dynamic approach should hopefully allow more guests who didn’t have a park reservation to make spontaneous same-day visits — assuming people actually cancel park reservations that they do not intend to use.
Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino sent an email this morning to all Magic Key holders about the “Important Update Regarding Your Magic Key Pass.”
Hello from the Disneyland® Resort!
Seven months into my role as president, I’ve been so inspired by the fans who call this place home. Your love for Disneyland®, your traditions, your feedback and your passion mean so much to us, and I want to thank you for being our most loyal supporters.
As you know better than anyone else, Disneyland® is much more than a place. It’s an idea that became an icon known around the world. Over 70 years later, we’re still bringing Walt’s vision to life every day, making the kind of magic he dreamed would inspire generations of Guests.
And I want you to know that we’re listening — your insights, ideas and experiences matter. You help us improve the experience for our Guests as we imagine our future while honoring our past.
That’s why I’m excited to share that starting tomorrow, October 7, 2026:
- We will remove the Magic Key no-show penalty
- You will be able to modify or cancel your Park reservation up until 11:59 p.m. PT on the day of your reserved date, providing you with more flexibility
Park reservations will still be required to help us prepare for each day, and we ask that you please modify or cancel your reservation if your plans change so we can offer that availability to other Guests.
We also continue to look for opportunities to show our appreciation for you. We are currently including a Disney Dining Card with all Magic Key renewals through May 26, 2027, and we’re excited for our new “Iconic Disneyland®” Extras Unlocked offerings coming in 2027.
Next year will be special with the return of some of your favorite entertainment offerings: “Remember… Dreams Come True” and the original “World of Color” nighttime spectaculars, and the “Magic Happens” parade — I can’t wait!
Thank you for making us a part of your story. We look forward to creating even more memories with you in the years ahead.
