Value Alert
To get the most bang for your buck out of the 6-redemption passport, you’ll just want to make sure you don’t get any of the items that cost less than $9.17 (regular) or $7.5 (annual pass). What We Tried
Boysenberry Brick
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
The Boysenberry Brick ($9.49) features a fried brioche with boysenberry jam and boysenberry soft serve. Everyone we talked to absolutely loved this decadent treat and you can count us in that bunch. The bread is perfectly crispy and the creamines of the soft server pairs well with the tartness of the jam. You are missing out if you don’t try this and yes the line will be long.
- WHERE: Ghost Town Grub
Spicy Boysenberry Bulgogi
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫
Spicy Boysenberry Bulgogi ($11.99) over steamed rice with green onions. We actually really enjoyed this a lot, the spiciness wasn’t too overbearing and coupled with the sweetness of the boysenberry really well. The rice was also cooked perfectly and almost a star of the dish itself. The only ding on this one is the grittiness of the seeds did come through just a little.
- WHERE: Gold Mine Trail Booth and Wilderness Dance Hall Patio
Sauteed Mushrooms
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫
Boysenberry Sauteed Mushroom ($10.99) with creamy vegetarian orzo. As a vegetarian dish this is a solid choice. Mushrooms are the start of the show here and the pieces of real boysenberry add a nice texture and flavor variation. This is a savory dish but still has the sweetness balanced with it. The orzo was also cooked just right although we’ve seen this can be hit or miss.
- WHERE: Gold Mine Trail Booth
Roasted Beet Salad
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫
Roasted Beet Salad ($10.99) with goat cheese, pistachios, boysenberries, and boysenberry dressing. We actually really enjoyed this one but the official description does not mention that this salad has a base of greens making it slightly misleading as often times a “Beet Salad” is largely comprised of beets. Instead, this is a delightful wedding-style salad with great flavors but the tiny slivers of beet hardly qualify this as a “Beet Salad” by our estimation. Tastes great, just lacking in some substance.
- WHERE: Mrs. Murphy’s
Crispy Chicken Wings
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫
Crispy Chicken Wings ($11.99) with a boysenberry Sriracha dipping sauce. Unfortunately the first batch we had were served cold — so hopefully Knott’s can figure that out, not just in the name of food safety but also these wings are really great when eaten fresh. The wings themselves have a neutral flavor but it’s the boysenberry Sriracha that takes them over the top.
- WHERE: Mrs. Murphy’s
Boysenberry Brussels Sprouts
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫
Boysenberry Balsamic Brussels Sprouts ($9.49) is a no frills choice and you know exactly what you’re getting here. The sprouts are cooked well and the boysenberry and balsamic flavors are a good compliment. I wish these had been given the opportunity to have the outer layers get crispy but otherwise this dish is fine but probably not worth a tasting card submission.
- WHERE: Wilderness Dance Hall
Boysenberry Brisket Kettle Chip Nachos
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Kettle Chip Nachos ($11.99) with boysenberry brisket, boysenberry crema, guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. If there was one dish we were not expecting to be smitten by it would be these Boysenberry Brisket Kettle Chip Nachos. Everything about this dish just works together perfectly from the mystery purple sauce that drenches the thick cut kettle chip fries to the tender boysenberry BBQ sauced brisket, everything works in harmony here and the pico, sour cream, and guac are a perfect topper. Best of the fest for what we tried this year.
- WHERE: Mrs. Murphy’s
Reuben Ball
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫
Reuben Ball ($11.99) with a spicy boysenberry Thousand Island dressing was a good choice but not something we were necessarily crazy about. The ball is very dense and hearty for its moderate-to-large size. Ours was full of cheese which paired well with the sauerkraut and salty meat. If it wasn’t for the kick of that spicy boysenberry Thousand Island dressing this would have been a forgettable dish but the arugula salad on the side was a perfect complement. Overall, a nice choice.
- WHERE: Wilderness Dance Hall and Silver Bullet Booth
Candied Bacon on a Stick
RATING: ☀️☀️⚫⚫⚫
Boysenberry-Glazed Candied Bacon on a Stick ($9.49) says it all in its name. The bacon is thick-cut and, cooked well, and the glaze is good (although the boysenberry flavor arguably faint) but in no world is a single slice of bacon on a stick worth $10 or a Tasting Card redemption.
- WHERE: Wilderness Dance Hall
Boysenberry BBQ Meatballs
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Boysenberry BBQ Meatballs ($11.99) over mashed potatoes with green onions return in one form or another and they never miss. The Knott’s Boysenberry BBQ sauce is a classic and served with meatballs and mashed potatoes is just a chef’s kiss of simple hearty perfection.
- WHERE: Calico Railroad Bar and Gold Mine Trail Booth
Tempura Chicken Bites
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫
Tempura Chicken Bites ($11.99) in a boysenberry and orange glaze lettuce wraps. The freshness of the chicken is what will make or break this dish because you’ll either get crispy fried deliciousness or soggy sad nuggies. The sauce is quite good and the crisp veggies are a perfect complement but overall we’d be cautious to recommend getting this one.
- WHERE: Wilderness Dance Hall
Boysenberry Cajun Shrimp
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️⚫⚫
Boysenberry Cajun Shrimp ($11.99) with vegetarian creamy orzo. The appearance of these is quite sad but the boysenberry flavors are there. Not sure that the cajun flavors shone through here and the creamy orzo that we got here was a little more dry than we would have hoped. Not a great dish but not a terrible one either.
- WHERE: Wilderness Dance Hall
Boysenberry Dippin’ Dots
RATING: ☀️☀️☀️☀️⚫
Boysenberry Dippin’ Dots ($) are a Knott’s Berry Farm classic. We’ve had these in previous years and found them to be absolutely tasty and satisfying. The berry flavor burst from the signature little beads makes this a refreshing and fun theme park treat.
- WHERE: Silver Bullet Booth
