About the Attraction
The familiar log flume attraction is a Disney Parks classic and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure offers a fresh journey through the bayou, blending lively music, fun storytelling, vibrant scenes, and a host of new and familiar characters.
Many of the film’s original cast returned to voice the characters they brought to life including Disney Legend Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana, Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie, and Michael Leon Wooley as Louis. Legendary Disney animators including Mark Henn, Eric Goldberg, and Randy Haycock who animated for the film were also included for consultation for the animation work and designs of the animatronic figures in the attraction.
Iconic songs from the film are heard along the way including “Dig a Little Deeper”, “Gonna Take You There”, and “Almost There.” Terence Blanchard, (who originally contributed to the music of the original The Princess and the Frog soundtrack), returned to craft music for the attraction. Other new sounds include a brand new song for Tiana called “Special Spice” (which you can listen to here) that she sings in the attraction’s finale. The song was written and produced by Grammy Award-winning musician PJ Morton who fans may know from the band Maroon 5.
The Story
Not just a new chapter for the former Splash Mountain, this attraction also serves as a new chapter in the life of Princess Tiana. Taking place after the events of the The Princess and the Frog, the story fast forwards to Tiana’s new life in New Orleans with not just a bustling Tiana’s Palace restaurant (which you can actually eat at in Disneyland) but also her own co-op business: Tiana’s Foods. This extra bit of backstory sets up the first part of the attraction as you make your way through the queue.
The former logging company is now a former salt mine and it finds new life yet again as the headquarters for Tiana’s Foods. As you make your way through the Tiana’s work space, you’ll find her office, her test kitchen, and other areas that are loaded with fun tributes and details. From a plate of fresh-made beignets (which you can smell) to knick-knacks, newspapers, and framed photos building up the 1920s backdrop for the attraction. As a special tribute, you’ll also find personal touches for Tiana including references to recipes and awards as well as her mother Eudora, a dressmaker, and her father James, a World War I veteran.
Eagle-eyed guests will spot small details in the queue that allude to the story that will unfold in the attraction — Tiana and Naveen are hosting a big Mardi Gras party at their home and everyone is invited! There’s just one small hitch that’s keeping the party from being the bee’s knees… there’s no band! Tiana and Louis need help finding the right musical sounds for the party and we’re along for the musical adventure.
As you’re going down the bayou, you’ll encounter a slew of critter crew playing different styles of the rich musical makeup of the city of New Orleans from a band of bayou critters performing zydeco music to a larger group of critters filing the air with celebrational rara sounds and even a frog-sized crew performing Afro-Cuban jazz tunes. Like a rich gumbo, Tiana’s party is gonna need a blend of them all! At one point, Mama Odie and Juju even transform the entire log down into the size of frogs to venture deeper into the bayou before the epic splash-down washes off the magic.
After the iconic 50-foot drop, we find ourselves at Fleur du Bayou, the home of Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen. The lively bands provide the musical backdrop for a party that features not just the critters we’ve encountered but also many familiar faces from The Princess and the Frog film including Eudora, Charlotte, “Big Daddy,” the King and Queen of Maldonia, and Naveen’s younger brother Prince Ralphie.
