Knott’s Scary Farm returns for the 2024 season with 10 total mazes including 2 brand new ones and if you’re looking for a guide on which ones to make sure you see (and which ones to skip) then we’ve got you covered.

With hosted tickets, we were given access to the park to uncover all the horror for ourselves. Here’s what we thought about the haunted house mazes during 2024 Knott’s Scary Farm!

Maze Rankings

In most cases, it’s just not possible to do every single maze in a single night so we’ve done a loose ranking of all the mazes this year to help you prioritize your plan of attack.

  1. Cinema Slasher
  2. Origins: The Curse of Calico
  3. Eight Fingers Nine: The Boogeyman
  4. The Grimoire

  6. Wax Works
  7. Mesmer

  9. Bloodline 1842
  10. The Chilling Chambers

Inside the Mazes

Cinema Slasher

RATING: šŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒ

After a strong debut last year, this one is still a stunner. Head into the Midnight Theater and then literally step into the screens of a triple feature of horror featuring the murderous Slasher. Each of the three screens represents a different delicious horror genre including a frat horror slasher, camp killer, and torture dungeon. The whole thing is tied together with the delightful projector demon that we find out is the one responsible for all the carnage come to life. An absolute murderous delight.

Origins: The Curse of Calico

RATING: šŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒ

As a love letter to Knott’s, this one has staying power. Full of fun old western visuals and tributes to the park’s history,Ā  the story traces the origins of villager Sarah Marshall into her descent (or ascent?) into the darkness of being the Green Witch. Good scares all around and the historical connection with the park itself makes this a really strong addition to both the event and the Ghost Town itself.

Eight Fingers Nine: The Boogeyman (NEW)

RATING: šŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒāš«

The Boogeyman is real and this maze explores the historical origins (as imagined by Knott’s) tracing back to the early days of the country. This maze is a mixed bag in its inaugural year but we’d still recommend giving it a shot. The story was a little tough to follow (I guess he has a thing for fingers?) and overall the big baddie leaves a little to be desired. He hardly felt befitting the title of one of one of the most infamously scary figures in horror lore. The general set design is fun, if uneven, it kinda swung a bit between both intricately nuanced (with some great animations throughout) and hometown haunt (with some choices that felt not fully formed).

The Grimoire

RATING: šŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒāš«

A lot of people don’t seem to love this one as much as we do. This one is NOT going to be the scariest of the night but it’s got a good strong story about a group of camp kids who unwittingly unleash a curse. It’s is easy to follow and brings a dizzying assemblage of scares with unsettling scenes from the trenches of World War I, a Stepford nightmare, and more. This gives really fun vibes of Stranger Things meets Evil Dead and we find it a perfect mix. Would love to see this developed as an actual series!

Widows (NEW)

RATING: šŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒāš«āš«

This one has a lot of potential but it felt like it didn’t quite figure out what kind of maze it wanted to be. The gorgeous exterior features a rundown old manor overrun by giant spiders with a decidedly sort of campy appearances but the maze itself generally takes itself a lot more seriously to varying degrees of success. The first act wandering through a dilapidated nursing home is excellent giving vibes of the dearly departed Trick or Treat maze in terms of robust immersion. As the horrors devolve into arachnid chaos, the maze starts to feel a bit repetitive and the spiders don’t really seem to do a lot of heavy lifting here.

Wax Works (FINAL YEAR)

RATING: šŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒāš«āš«

In it’s final year, this one is going out as one of the creepiest goriest and unsettling mazes we’ve experienced at Knott’s. The scares and the story are abundant as we trek through creepy burned down wax museum into a horrific wax dungeon workshop.

Mesmer

RATING: šŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒāš«āš«

This is a really fun one because it’s so cerebral and intentionally confusing. Professor Mesemer has you under his hipnotic trance and the frights he is able to unlock are both confusing and terrifying. A true creepy carnie delight.

Room 13

RATING: šŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒāš«āš«

Step into the backstreets of the Gore-ing 20s boardwalk and head into an unassuming doorway that leads to a speak easy during Prohibition era. Once inside, beware of the noxious brew of Devil’s Elixir which is wreaking havoc on Memory Lane and at the Argyle Hotel. This maze unwittingly feels like stepping into an episode of the Twilight Zone and we loved that aspect; the vintage charm shines through and there’s a creepy — although perhaps not distinctly memorable — batch of characters running amok.

Bloodline 1842 (FINAL YEAR)

RATING: šŸŽƒšŸŽƒāš«āš«āš«

It hardly seems this maze really got a fair shake. Three’s some great adventurous fantasy vibes as you enter the city of Valdonia where war rages between the Daybreakers and the twisted Valhymphri. It originally debuted with guns that maze-goers used to help battle their way through. After those were removed, the maze still felt like a fun video game story — in an honestly good way. Still, it just feels something is missing.

The Chilling Chambers

RATING: šŸŽƒāš«āš«āš«āš«

As a love letter to the 50th anniversary of Knott’s Scary Farm, this was a true highlight in its debut last year. This year, however, the maze takes a plummet to the bottom. It’s not a bad maze but the disjointed nature of this one feels like surfing through a greatest hits playlist without ever settling on anything satisfying. Just as you get into one story, you’re flipping into the next. We were very surprised to see the Keeper character that was re-introduced last year was completely scrubbed from the maze this year giving the whole thing even less cohesion.
