Inside the Houses
Insidious: The Further
RATING: 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
This franchise is just so creepy that it lends itself over and over to fantastic mazes during this event. Countless black hallways actually work as a strength for this one.
Dead Exposure: Death Valley
RATING: 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
The tropes here are extremely well represented in the horror genre and yet possibly because of that, it needs little setup to work. It’s camp, it’s gore, it’s a winner.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Legacy of Leatherface
RATING: 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
Leatherface mazes tend to be hit or miss but in celebration of the original film’s 50th anniversary this is a wonderful homage to the entire franchise with a new take.
A Quiet Place
RATING: 🎃🎃🎃🎃⚫
Leaning heavily into the visuals of the first film makes it easy to sorta know what’s coming next in this maze but that doesn’t detract. This one’s a lot of fun but a little repetitive with the signature alien used over and over.
The Weeknd: Nightmare Trilogy
RATING: 🎃🎃🎃🎃⚫
Not going to lie, I don’t think I understand half of the mental gymnastics at play here but it truly doesn’t matter. The maze is disorienting and spooky which I’m sure was 100% the point. Mission accomplished!
Monstruos 2: The Nightmares of Latin America
RATING: 🎃🎃🎃⚫⚫
Really wanted to love this one but it felt just slightly disjointed this year setting up this year’s crop of baddies. Still a fun terrifying romp continued after by its attached scare zone.
Terror Tram: Enter the Blumhouse
RATING: 🎃🎃🎃⚫⚫
M3gan, Happy Death Day, Freaky, Black Phone, and The Purge are represented here making a fun array of scares across the familiar path of the PSYCHO Bates Motel and War of the Worlds sets.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
RATING: 🎃⚫⚫⚫⚫
Chalking this up to a bad run through when we went but this was light on scares or impressive visuals that other incarnations of this IP as mazes have featured before.
Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines
RATING: 🎃⚫⚫⚫⚫
Truly disappointing, we’re also blaming a bad run through during our visit but this maze meandered on with little cohesion due to a lack of scare actors. Still, it’s very cool that this is housed inside Stage 12 where many of these original Universal Monster movies were actually filmed.
