Exactly what Disney has in store for Avatar at the Disneyland Resort is still a mystery even after Disney CEO Bob Iger released a brand new concept image that shows what an immersive new experienced based on the film franchise might contain.
What Was Announced
The image was released today during the Walt Disney Company 2024 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Remaining coy about confirming anything, Iger went on record to note: “We’re thrilled about many potential new stories that our guests could experience at Walt’s original theme park, including the opportunity to embark on all-new Avatar adventures with a visit to the world of Pandora,” Iger said. “Our Imagineers have been hard at work dreaming up what guests might expect.”
Of course, as Disney nerds we love to pour over all the details for a closer look at what Disney Imagineers could have cooking for the Happiest Place on Earth. Below are some closer looks at the new concept art revealing some of the details. Largely the land shown in concept art seems to most closely resemble the more aquatic environs featured in AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER. In much the same way that Epcot introduced Journey of Water inspired by MOANA we could potentially see an incorporation of an ecological angle with an entertainment twist.
Here’s some of the details that caught our eyes…
What’s Shown
First and foremost… a boat ride! And a lovely bridge traversing over the waterway.
One word that Disney seems coy in using to describe the Avatar expansion is the word “land,” opting instead to referring to it as an Avatar experience. Regardless, the concept imagery here shows not just plenty of land but also people exploring all around it.
Beautiful water features and distinctive topography of the world of Pandora is a focal part of the imagery.
Of course, the floating chunks of earth from the Hallelujah Mountains from Avatar are an unmistakable feature.
Unique and otherworldly plants are also visible all over the artwork.
The world of Avatar is also inhabited by a plethora of creatures, a few of which seem to be on display in the concept art including the adorable otter creatures that were seen in the deleted scenes for Avatar: The Way of Water.
Banshees are the premiere winged creature in the minds of Avatar fans but they aren’t the only flying creatures that live on Pandora!
